Which tileset has the most options for a map? The one I am using was shot down by my friend who said it was a bad choice to use. Do some have alot more options then others?

Well, if you are planning on doing extended terrain, then jungle probably has the most selection of blends. But it really depends on what you are doing because the other tilesets have interesting blends.

You don't make a map to a terrain, you make terrain to a map. So the best tileset comes down to what your map idea is.

I can agree and disagree at the same time. Certainly the tileset you choose should match the theme of the map you are making. But other factors apply as well. If you feel you need 10-13 different layers(ie water, low dirt, temple, high dirt, high temple; as pertains to jungle tilset) you're gonna want jungle over badlands UNLESS you feel it would benefit the map more to have a "perfect" matching tileset. I like to call these similar tilesets pairs:

Jungle(13) world matches most with badlands(9)
Installation(7) matches most with space platform(10)
Ice(13) is most similar to twilight(13)
and i suppose you could compare ash world(8) to desert(13)

Though each is unique, they are interchangeable in some cases. Another factor is the sprite/doodads that go with the tileset. If you don't need tons of layers, but you need a specific doodad within the tileset, you wouldn't mind going with inst/badlands/ash. If you don't need any doodads but you want a lot of layer changes you might wanna go with jungle/ice/twilight/desert. Hope I didn't confuse you senseless lol:)

very few people make a map in ash world/desert. It would be interesting to see one in that tileset.

The Brood War tilesets are the same... Some of the three are missing some pieces, but they have the same amount of layers. Jungle + Brood War tilesets can be switched almost perfectly, except for Doodads and perhaps extended terrain.

I personally like Badlands for more modern-style things (asphault, structure, dead ), Jungle for older-style things (jungle, ruins, temples.) Other than that, they are the same.

Tilesets are very context-sensitive.

Which is they must be MERGED in UNSIGHTLY MANNERS.

Yeah, I admit that I prefer to make maps in Jungle, but if I do it in any other tileset, I tend to make some seriously good Isom with a bit of extension thrown in. Jungle is just the ultimate tileset for blending, not only because everyone has found blends for it, but because it's just good at blending, there is a reason for so few people using other tilesets.

Maybe, once people find enough good blends for the other tilesets, not everybody will be blending on jungle exclusively. I find it difficult to try to switch to other tilesets, due to their difficulty in finding blends.

I can't decide between Space or Installation.

Installation just sets the scene for dark, cramped storylines, and can create a claustophobic feel when playing something like The Thing or something along those lines.

Space is just pretty. I dunno why.

There is no such thing as the "Best Tileset". Generally, the tileset used in a map is the tileset that fits the theme. Just because Jungle is considered the most flexible tileset, that doesn't mean it fits a map based on an icy land, in which Ice World tileset would fit best.

I like desert and iceworld alot, and twilight. Ashworld is easy to work with, but it is very limited.

Space is definitely the hardest to work with, in my eyes. I hatez trying to blend it.
