Ok so i know this works because ive seen it in a cat and mouse map, and i remember seeing something about putting a whole shit load of scarabs for p12 in top left before u start map or something, and i remember wen i looked at the cat and mouse map there was scarabs in top left, now i would like to know if this really works or if it has been patched or what. If it does still exist could someone tell me how to do it, thanks in advance

don't know if x8 speed was ever possible but x4 and x2 existed for sure.
For the current patch there's only one speed increase known: x2
Kenoli linked you to the method.
Ahlis Tutorial on SEN tells you more about possible side effects.

I have tried it in old versions, though. :P

i tested it and placed like 50 scarabs for p2 and gave myself a bunch of units that i knew their speed and it didnt seem to change, so i came here

It has to be for player 15, not player 2.

EDIT: WTF farty!? Did you make that map? How did you change the unit speed like that if you did make it?

It's probably a buffer overflow. Some hours ago I had the same idea, and since it is still the same unit but now it has to be placed for p15 instead of p14 I thought that maybe blizzard codders added some variable inbetween.
The owned unit counters are probably not overflowing because the the counter address is computed by the formula player + unit*12.
Also the units placed before the scarab get frozen...

Yes, but there is no actual value that if you modify it the speed changes. I looked for one, and ended up looking for a function so I could make SetGameSpeed.

Each sprite might have its own timer. That might explain why some units freeze.

With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
