German is not necessarily easy to learn simply because it is similar to English. While it is true that English grammar and structure is entirely a derivative of German grammar and structure, German shares with English its irregularity of rules, and if you don't have a natural ear for it, you will die when it comes to learning the past forms of the many, many irregular German verbs (e.g. giessen/goss/gegossen).

I'd suggest one of the major dialects of Chinese. I've considered taking a class on it before, along with Arabic and Hebrew.

Yes.. if my high school offered it. >:( Definitely plan on taking Mandarin in college though.

particle of speech? did I spell it wrong? In Japanese its 'wa' 'ga' 'no' ...wrong term?

Yes, 'particle' is the proper linguistic term.

@Dan: A particle serves as a marker of the part of speech of another word. Particles are not used in English but are common in languages of Chinese origin (Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc.) that use the S-O-V word order. (e.g. watashi wa nihongo o hanashimasu - lit. I (p) Japanese (p) speak, where wa denotes that watashi (I) is the subject, and o denotes that nihongo (Japanese) is the object. Pronouns do not change their form by tense, and neither are verbs conjugated by mood or subject.)

Some languages also have a 'topic' particle such as the Korean 느/는 (neu/neun) which subtly changes the emphasis of sentence when used once in place of the standard particle.

I've also been working on my own linguistic since 2004.
I think you should work on your English more before you start on a conlang ;o

I'm currently trying to learn Japanese, but I'm still at the stage where everyone is forced to learn a second language, so it's not going very fast (next year you can drop it, so there should be less of the riff-raff in my class d:). I'd like to learn it outside of school, but not if I have to fucking pay for it. School itself costs enough already.

Private School? No offense to anyone but I don't really see any good real life reasons to learn Japanese. These white kids in my school tries to learn Japanese because they one day hope of actually going to Japan and buying massive animes and such. Unless its for business antics such, such as going to Japan to study for architecture and such.

Mm, I'm going to a private school... luckily I've got a scolarship otherwise we wouldn't be able to pay for it. ~$4,000 quaterly? Fuck that.

One of the main reasons I have for wanting to learn Japanese is just the novelty of knowing another language, and it's the second language that I've been taught since I started going to school. And knowing Japanese can help me later in life, my mother often works with Japanese clients (she's a chemist).

Of those I would've learned Japanese. A couple of friends and me have planned going to Japan for a month to learn the basics of the language.
I had German for three years before high school, but the teacher we had the second year was so bad I just gave up.
Italian... Well, after playing WoW I've gotten a very bad impression of Italian people and their language.
Hebraic? wtf?

Do you need a good real life reason to try to learn a language?
Anyway, I'll probably end up as a math teacher...

By the time I learn that, the tribes will be extinct.

Anyways, the only thing discouraging me from learning Japanese so far is the thousands and thousands of symbols.

Comparing that to French, that seems easy. Conjugating French verbs itself is a challenge.

Question: Though I only half-jokingly suggested something like Lojban, why would some of you consider it something to not take seriously?

Seriously.

Guess not.

But is that a requirement to learn an obviously superior language?
