:payne:

Huh, when I clicked on those 2 images to test the viewer, I clicked "Next", but then "Previous" wouldn't work. :O

Yeah, when it reaches the first/last image on the page, it disables BOTH "previous" and "next" rather than picking the one that applies.

Simple solution: make it loop. :awesome:

Yes, stop resizing images to 429 pixels as I don't like cutting my topic banners into multiple images. The new image viewer is perfect; don't change it.

If you really think that (in its current form, without the fullscreen resize), I will have lost most of my respect for you.

Lol. Okay, don't change it unless you add features. I just don't want the whole thing redone.

I order you to forgive yourself!

Here is how it should be.

Edit: Let the page load or you won't see what I wanted to show.
Edit2: :P <- Click it!

Edit: It seems like if you don't wait for a few second, when you click the picture, it opens the direct image on an other tab.

Are you seriously suggesting that we adapt an advertisement-ridden method of displaying pictures that generates revenue while maintaining the least server stress at the cost of user convenience?Never mind. I get what it is. I wonder how Tinypic is getting the left-click JS to work without making the browser simultaneously registering it as a link.

I'll try to get the code if it's not hidden.

Edit: Thickbox is open source.

Nah, I still can't click the middle mouse button and then drag scroll horizontally...
Any system that does not allow this is inferior to the old method.

The view raw image can be a custom page based on the older system. (You couldn't scroll with the middle button because your browser didn't include it in their view direct image page.)

One quick thought:
Allow the left and right arrow keys to have the function of the "previous" and "next" buttons when the full image dialog is open.

Also, the workaround is right-click/view image right now.

Also: good job for finally getting edits to affect minerals Dev =].

The only problem I have with the new system is that the borders don't reach the edges of the screen, so it's smaller than before. I do like having the close button, though. Before, if you clicked on a "user posted image" box with no image in it, you couldn't get out without refreshing the page, since there was no image to click on to close it.

Que Sera, Sera.

I love the new system, it works a lot better for me.

The modal now loops and shows what image you're on (and how many there are) in the lower-right corner. Furthermore, a bug involving the shrink-to-fit function was fixed.

The vote's really close, so I'll wait a bit. Recoding the fullview to work the old-fashioned way while removing the Turtle-and-old-fullview bug (with the "invisible wall") and retaining the new functionality (shrink/previous/next) may take a bit of work.

Now that we have a close button, why not make it so that clicking on the image opens it in a new window/tab (link to itself)?

Relatively ancient and inactive

This is better, but it still sux. Make one click make the image fill the screen, another make it full size (if it's larger) and a 3rd to return to the thread. Nice and simple.

If we really want a superior image pop-up method, please adapt the style used by Sankaku Complex when the major bugs with the rest of the site are out of the way.

Essentially:
When a downsized image is clicked on, create a draggable jQuery box that frames the image. If the image larger than 1000 in one dimension, its larger dimension is constrained to 1000 pixels. When the mouse is hovered over the frame of an image that had its dimensions reduced, show an "expand" button at the bottom right, and clicking on it expands the frame to hold the full image (similarly, an expanded image will have a "shrink" option at the bottom right on mouseover). Single-clicking the image anywhere other than the expand will close it.

It's simple, intuitive, and free of current issues such as the 100-pixel wide borders/screen size limitations/scrollbar BS/prev-next hassle/inability to see the rest of the page.

Just so you guys know: DavidJCobb is not not here right now, so you'll have to wait until there will be any codings.

Back but temporarily unable to work on SEN on a regular/daily/semi-daily basis due to emotional stress.

Clicking is faster but not a self-evident UI behavior; the button to toggle fullview/resizing is more noticeable.

Added to my todo list. I won't publish the change unless others voice support for it, but when I can I'll work on coding and testing it via Firebug.

Bump for relevant addition to the concept of redoing the image popup:

http://www.staredit.net/?p=shoutbox&view=1219
HCM™Aristocrat -- Since you're working on the site, could you look into removing the 425 pixel resize on images?
HCM™Aristocrat -- A lot of pictures that don't need to be sized down get framed into a grey background because of that
Forsaken Archer -- and what would the image limit be then
Forsaken Archer -- you can't post 1920x1800 without making the site look crappy without some type of image size limit
Forsaken Archer -- the thumbnail / image popup code needs to be better, aye
HCM™Aristocrat -- poison_us -- resize to fit page. <--- Not simple with variable-width skins like turtle
HCM™Aristocrat -- or so I think. Maybe CSS would help?

I looked into this, and yes, it's indeed possible to resize images based on screen width. DoujinStyle does it; if you view this page (need registration) with 1024x768 resolution, the banner image will be framed, showing the following text at the top:
Quote
Resized to 88% (was 800 x 400) - Click image to enlarge

With higher screen resolutions, you see the full image without the frame. I'm guessing the horizontal image size restriction is computed based on document.body.clientWidth or something similar (we do not need a vertical size restriction since that will not stretch the page). It would help to be able to upload large banners without chopping them up into multiple parts.

Again, the image popup could be improved; a draggable jQuery box would be much better than a fullscreen modal for viewing a full size image. Please look into adding this in the near future; if not in SEN v5.1, it would be great to see it in v6. :)
