We live in a society.

Quote from Excalibur
I do think we need to remove accounts that have little to no posts and have been inactive. I'm sure Moose, Devourer, or Jacob can come up with an algorithm, generate a list, and we can go from there. Even though this is something to my knowledge SEN has never done, we leave accounts there forever, I think once we start going to accounts that haven't been used since v5 started, it'd be much more likely said user wasn't coming back.
I purged old accounts in v4. IP won't like if old members are purged. Beyond that, the site's code isn't built around the possibility of deleted accounts at all.

I suppose. At member 12 (no idea how I got that, considering my join date) I might not get the lag. Speaking of my join date, I thought it was because I joined after member 12 was deleted?

Accounts not active for 2 years with less than 50 posts would probably get ~1000 hits, and get rid of forgotten old double accounts.

I had login lag back in L.A and it's normal now I'm back home.

If accounts were deleted, wouldn't that assign diff #'s to non-deleted members?

👻 👾 👽 💪

I'm pretty sure that member counts have nothing to do with login time ... There are a quarter of a million posts, yet when viewing a topic it doesn't take an hour to load. Databases are better than that.

I have dial up and its the main page that lags for me because of all the news images. Forum index does lag bit ever so slightly, compared to v5 atleast. Lag isn't a problem for me either with that aside.

I usually have 10~ tabs open too.

I wouldn't mind a Light version though. Would it be possible to have an option where I can turn off images in the news for the front page only?

Hello

First off: the super high member count got nearly (if not exactly nothing) to do with the lag. I'm pretty pretty sure about that.
And for the IDs: an ID is a counter (specially in the sql datbases) which increases by 1 (or by a number you want it to increase) for every new entry. Means, when v5 was launched IP obviously was the first account, so he got member id 1... second was moose, afterwards dtbk. However, these got absolutely nothing to do with the joining date.

I don't see how the solution could possibly be to delete members. There's got to be a better log-in system.

Delete your cache and login again. If that doesn't work, its probably on your side. :P

I do recall some server-side problems on v5.1's launch involving what seemed to be session IDs based on a person's member ID. Certain member IDs were unable to view the site for unknown reasons; mine was one of them. Maybe the encryption/decryption code is slow for some members?

On a side note, I only have access to the skin files for Turtle. I technically can access skin files for other skins, but I'm pretty sure I shouldn't be doing that without Dev's permission. IOW problems with the site's core, such as login lag and the user database, are outside of my capabilities.

Mr firefox deletes it's cache every time I close it. And I'm sure it's on my side. I can download HD movies faster than I can log into SEN.

Magic box god; Suck it Corbo

After you click log in you should wait a few seconds the click on then forum index link or some other page on SEN. You should end up on that page logged in (that's what i used to do and it worked for me) It still lags when i log in but most of the time i dont have to deal with it because I'm always signed in

HD movies in two minutes? How much do you pay? :P

Log in, wait a few moments, go to forum index. Try with different browsers. If all else fails, just leave it on auto-sign in? :P

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

12 GB for a 2 hour movie, DL in 2 minutes, that's 100 MB/s, which is 800 Mbps, and faster than most hard drives. Japan and korea have gigabit ethernet, but I know leeroy isn't in japan.

That's the problem, Leeroy. You're deleting your cache. Have fun redownloading every single client-side resource SEN uses, every time you restart your browser. FAIL.

Relatively ancient and inactive

... What does him downloading a few images every time he logins in have to do with waiting two minutes to be logged in? Sure, he's using more bandwidth and loading pages will be slower - but it doesn't take two minutes to download a megabyte of information.

Unless this megabyte is being received slowly for whatever reason.

Some websites has the issue of having banners/ads/images that must be downloaded before the rest of the page is displayed. That is, if there's a banner on the top that time outs and/or never loads for some reason, the rest of the page simply won't be shown. I don't know if it's the same situation for SEN.

By the way, my login delay is almost the same as page refresh delay on my end.

I was going to say, an SQL database lagging at 5,000 rows? Are you kidding me?

Guys, whatever it is, it is definitely not slow-to-return SELECT queries.

I'm on my girlfriend's mac. It doesn't delete the cache. Still having a tremendously slow log-in time. That's the only thing that's slow on this site.

Wait, it's just login, Leeroy? The first page of the site that you load (whatever that might happen to be) is not slow?
