The title pretty much describes what im asking.
Can you modify the amount of damage a nukeclear missle does? I think they do about 5000 normally... and i want it to do about... 500..
None.
Look in the wiki for better numbers on that...but no, you can't reduce the damage done. If an unused upgrade effects it, which I doubt, it will only go up, not down.

In the dead center a nuke does at least 500 damage or 67% of the units hp, depending on which is greater.
Keep your units max hp under 750 or keep them out of the blast center and you're good.
The UnusedUpgrade60 changes it by 1... hope I helped. Actually, I don't thinnk this is possible.
None.
The UnusedUpgrade60 changes it by 1...
AFAIK this only affects Storm, building armor, and peon attack.
Upgrade60 also upgrades building attack (turret, cannon, sunken, spore)
None.
Can this be manipulated with scmdraft 2?
I'm only here because they patched SC1 and made it free.
Editing the damage is disabled.
Datedit says the nuclear attack does 600 damage. I think you can change this number in the map via hex, but I don't think it will do any good. It's a well known fact that it's 500 or 2/3, so that probably means the damage is hard coded into the game somehow.
Try it out yourself. Set upgrade60 to 255 and nuke something with 666 life or so. If it dies, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't work. It should be under the upgrades, under other, and the very last one. To be safe, set them all to 255.
"Parliamentary inquiry, Mr. Chairman - do we have to call the Gentleman a gentleman if he's not one?"
UnusedUpgrade60 is the only one used by anything. None of the other unused upgrades do anything.
I edited the nuclear missile damage from 600 to 20, and it still killed everything. The missile doesn't have the nuclear missile attack linked to it, so you can't edit it in the editor.

Why are some things in starcraft hardcoded and others not? If I recall a lot of broodwar units have hardcoded traits.

Programmers are lazy. And it's a lot easier to hardcode something than to modify the read code that reads the data file and all that stuff.
So if they need to add a feature that will be used for a lot of units it's probably worth the effort adding it to the data files. If it'll only affect one unit, then hardcoding is the easy way.

Unless it is cloaking (but not cloaked) units. ;o
That sucks that the damage is (almost certainly) hardcoded... That'd be awesome.
