I don't know how many people here actually read the book, if you haven't you should be ashamed of yourself. But Card has just gave Chair Entertainment the rights to make the Battle Room game into an actual video game. For anyone who doesn't know what it is its basically a form of capture the flag. Players are in a huge 3d environment with zero gravity and they are given anywhere between 0 to several obstacles to hide or move between. Each player on each team has a freeze gun and when they shoot other players with it the parts they shot at are frozen in place (ie: shoot the head/neck they cant look any other direction now). The goal of the game if I remember correctly is to score the most kills while incurring the least losses and capture the enemies gate. Ever since I read the book I've always thought and talked to friends about how great of a game this would be, finally we get to see it.

Look forward to this, it will be an awesome game even if they epicly fail at it.

If they pull this off it could be one of the greatest video games ever. I've always wanted to see someone do it and even thought about doing a HL2 mod to recreate the feeling.

They will see us waving from such great heights
"Come down now," they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now," but we'll stay

They have nothing to do with each other. Though I did love ZOE also, it was a great game.

That'd be great, hope it doesn't get canned like the movie. What would truly be amazing is if the game design allowed for the ingenuity that Ender demonstrated. Such as curling up and freezing your legs as a shield while someone pushes you from behind.

It was actually just to capture the enemy's gate however you needed to (As shown when Ender... Well, I may spoil it for Hug A Zergling, so
Made a wall of frozen people out of his entire team and pushed it across
). I agree with Hercanic, though, if they don't have that ingenuity available, the game wouldn't really be worth playing. It'd just kind of be, "Hey, jump through the void and don't get frozen. If you do, that's too bad, punk."

The game would get repetitive after a while I think. It would also be extremely difficult to successfully design a set of controls which could be used to bounce off walls/objects in a specified direction. I suppose just looking at the area you want to move to would be a sufficient way to aim your movements. The other problem is body movement. Since you can contort your body into other positions, and possibly change directions slightly in midair, it would be difficult to achieve this sort of thing. Third, you're a COMMANDER, so you have to be able to shout orders. If its an online game, this requires people to have microphones or type. Not to mention, the commander isn't anything special, just a regular soldier. It would be pointless to have one in that case. I'm also reminded of idiots like Leeroy Jenkins. If it's single player, you have to deal with crappy AI, and severely limited ordering abilities. I don't think you'd effectively be able to command. Then again, maybe not.

It's funny to see how many people have really read his book. I haven't met anyone who didn't enjoy it. Personally I've read it around 5 times, at various ages. It's a great children's book and a good read for adults too. What's really crazy is he lives 30 minutes away from me...

IMDB is still reporting the movie to be in pre-production, but I think it will come out eventually. Shoot, if they get a move on, it will be out by December.

I would think that you could make your own custom setups for the rooms, i.e. changing where the 'stars' (that's what those were called, right?) are, size, gate locations... Also, it'll probably be online multiplayer, and I would think it would have commands similar to Allegiance.

I remember playing an "Enders" Starcraft map where you would build up units before a time limit and fight them in a central arena. That was probably one of my favorites.

I used to play that too, it was pretty cool but people would just build a bunch of defensive shit and then mass units in to win.
