Okay, my friend awhile back had this little box that had a bunch of console controller inputs (gamecube, ps2, original xbox) and converted them to a usb. Anyway, I'm trying to find one of those on amazon, but I can't find any that have all of those. I figure you guys might have more resources, but I have to buy it on amazon cause I have a gift card.

We live in a society.

Hard to google? I did it in one shot: http://www.amazon.com/Gamecube-XBox-Controller-Adapter-favorite-PC/dp/B000ND3XXA

Why don't you just cut off the end of the controller and splice in a USB end from a) your local electronics store or b) some USB cable that you don't need/use anymore? Much more awesum, enjoyable to do, and a lot cheaper.

People generally don't like buying "homemade" stuff, especially electronics. Plus, something tells me he won't be able to splice it without messing SOMEthing up.

gamecube isn't USB (3.3 volts). PS2 and xbox might be though. Especially ps2, because I think the ps2 to ps3 converters are just a usb adapter.

He's not buying it, he's using it. And it's not hard to solder 3-4 wires together and put some heatshrink over the top to make it look nice. It's certainly a good skill to learn if he doesn't already know how.

Those two lines tell me two things: first, he needs to buy an adapter of some kind, unless you have a cheap method to convert from GameCube to USB. Second, he isn't using it right now, else he wouldn't need to find it to buy it.

Well, specifically, I want a gamecube adapter, but the only one I can find is like $45 and my friend's cost him like $10. Also, I wouldn't mind a DIY one, but I still need to be able to use the gamecube controller as a gamecube controller.

What do you intend to use this for? An emulator? Use a ps3 controller with the motionjoy drivers and emulate a 360 controller and you should be fine. Or just get a 360 controller, but I always hated xbox controllers. I do my N64 LP's with a PS3 controller.

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

Well, yes, it's for an emulator, but I don't want to use an xbox or ps3 controller, because (and call me crazy) I need the octagonal case for my joysticks. I cannot play an old n64 game without it. For those of you who don't know what I mean:

The red part of that picture, where the joystick get's it's 8 directions defined.

Eh, I did without it. A bit unnerving at first perhaps but you get used to it. You might have no choice... as I have never heard of a converter for these controller types. Maybe you should look for a game pad that has that feature?
