I'm proud to announce my final AoS submission, Marauder's Revel. This is by far my
best accomplishment. It's a mix between TS and DoTA. The game is highly thought
through, with smooth running game-play and progressive hero fights. I spent a lot
of time balancing the game. Each hero has his strengths and weaknesses. So you'll
get to choose a role. I've categorized the heroes below and given them niches, so
you'll get an idea of what hero suits your combat style before you play.

How to Play
There are 2 teams. Each team must protect its Temple. To win, either destroy the
enemy Temple, or eliminate all enemy heroes. Heroes are limited to 5 lives.

Warp Gates
Gain territorial control by capturing Warp Gates. Once captured, you can teleport
to them. Also, they give you strong defenses which fend off rival heroes. There's
a total of 3 outposts.

Assimilators
Building these babies generates your team gold over time. It's a good idea to build
them near captured Warp Gates, so the enemy will stay away from them.

Level up points
Every time you level up, you get to choose one of the following upgrades:
  • Raise your health. You'll be able to survive longer in combat.
  • Raise your mana. Increases mana cap and mana regeneration.
  • Raise your money. Spend cash on weapon and armor upgrades.
  • Unlock spells and skills. You get a total of 4 spells and 2 skills.

Survival Heroes (3)

Damage Heroes (2)

Support Heroes (3)

Hunting Heroes (3)

After some rigorous testing (special thanks to Zacheree), the map is ready for its
official release. If you find any bugs, please post them!

I guess I've been doing these sorts of maps for too long! That, and I have no life basically :D

"Enemies now block teleport during Warp Gate capture."

you're just mad i ganked you when you were trying to take my gate ^.^

btw you may consider disabling repair. i just played a game against engineer and gol hero, the engineer was able to heal him up to max health.

lvling still feels very slow. that on top of the cost for new spells is pretty steep which make midgame very slow paced.

i played as alchemist and in my lane i got matched up against glacius, and his stun spell is a little rediculous. it stuns, drains damage AND it has a huge aoe. to me the range is what makes it imba, HOWEVER i also think the mana drain is too much. this may not be an issue though if you made the leveling (much) faster, as it is now civs are very precious and for some heroes i feel it isn't worth it to invest in mana.

Hmm, I have to ask, what was the reasoning for this thread if you were going to choose a name no one voted for? :P

I don't think I can disable it, but I can increase the cost for repairing units. I'll take a look at that. Do you have the replay for it?

Yeah I watched the replay you posted. It does feel way too slow still. Levelling theoretically should happen once every minute. So I'm thinking of doing one of three things.
1. Capturing Warp Gates gives free XP over time for team.
2. Whenever you're near enemies, slowly raises XP over time.
3. Reducing mana cap from 12 to 10 Broodlings.

That should resolve your mana problems when I increase XP gain :)

@Azreal: One person voted. That's not enough.

EDIT: One last thing, I noticed people are complaining about two things. First, they complain it's "exactly like TS". Then, they complain it's not enough like TS because they find out the spells aren't the same. Maybe I should have made this clearer in the Mission Briefing, but the map is based off TS and Dota. The heroes have only certain similarities, the functions are the same, and the terrain is basically TS reversed. However, the heroes for the mostpart are very, very different. So to all you TS players, I'm sorry it's nearly the same but not quite the same, I just designed it to be a fun map with my own little niches.

MetalGaer, there are five votes there, and three are for the same choice.

Oh wow! I didn't see that! Thanks for pointing that out, I'll rename the next version to Magic & Honor. Now I'll have to design a new logo, arrrgh! Lol.

Marauder's Revel sounds the best out of all of them, though. You should just leave it.

Also, you always spell Azrael's name as "Azreal." You should fix that.

It's okay, I modified the repair cost so now it costs 5 gold to repair 100 hit points (which is relative to the cost of buildings). It would be cool if you posted the replays here in the forum. But I'm hoping to sort my net out in the next couple of days so we'll be able to team up! Btw, I posted the 3rd beta version. I decided on an auto-XP system which gives 72 XP (= to 4 Broodlings) per minute. 216 XP = level up. Early levels cost less XP though (108 at level 1).

Before you play your next game, maybe you should try a new gameplay style. Experiment with different ways of levelling fast. So either throw level points on cash (for weapon upgrades) or choose a good spawn killer, like Iron Man or Bombardier. See how you go with the new auto-XP system. I may decide to increase the auto-XP from 72 to 108. Also, if you get a chance, could you test Bombardier for me?

ok i tested bombardier thoroughly all of his spells and skills seem to work, although his 2nd skill seems a little weak, seems useless vs ranged units. also he seems to lvl much faster than the other heroes that were in this particular game. i'll be posting the replay when i get it, my game froze at the end but fortunately one of the testers saved it for me.

also there was some confusion about the hydras 4th spell. is it ONLY supposed to stun heroes and kill units with <500 MAX hp? or is it supposed to stun heroes AND kill all units under 500hp? if it is the latter then it doesn't work, he used it on me when i had ~300 hp and i was only stunned.

other than that everything else we tested seemed to work great, leveling happens at a much more comfortable rate now, except bombardier seemed to lvl much faster than the other guys there in the beginning

Okay, great! And yeah it's okay, some of the heroes are designed for levelling faster. His second skill is short range but deals 1000 damage. Keep in mind, it takes skill to use his abilities to their best potential. You've got to stay in close range for his spells to be effective. Also, the spells & skills are designed to counter certain types of heroes and act as certain roles. So Bombardier is best against melee.

The Hydra's 4th spell seems to work fine. It kills units <500 maximum HP, so that doesn't include heroes. But I think you'll agree, the 5-second area stun is lethal.

Well, I think the map's nearly ready for it's official release. I might just give it a few more days of testing for any last-minute adjustments.

one small fix that would make a BIG difference: make it so everyone's civs spawn in a different spot. would make the map look cleaner and you wouldn't have the problem of your civs getting blocked in by the other players. particularly in full games, at the start you basically have to wait until everyone starts using their civs (some new people can take FOREVER to decide what to spend them on) before you can get 1 or 2 of them out of the middle of the civ clusterfuck.

edit - oh i see you already plan to address that ^.^

Jul 13 2013, 6:21 am MetalGear Post #17

Yep don't worry I've already made that change. Now each player has their own Civilian spawn placement. (You'll see the changes in the changelog that I keep in the main post. I update the log before submitting the next version.)

i don't have the replay of this happening but there was a pretty weird bug i had earlier. i randomed the defiler, bought my first skill before the game started and when my hero appeared i had 1 hydra 1 defiler and 1 invincible civ o.O obviously nothing game-breaking but i thought it was a little odd

None.

Jul 13 2013, 9:31 am MetalGear Post #19

That is strange. Did you choose the random game mode (which auto assigns all players random) or you chose hero select but took your civ down to the powerup which gives you random?
