For me just about any map maker who made a zombie game.

Although my sites have widened now but before anyone who made a zombie map was amazing :P.

In chronological order:
Staredit, for being there for me to fool around on and make melee maps oh so long ago.
Christopher Paolini, for writing the book Eragon which I made an RPG out of a long time ago (never was popular on bnet though).
The old SEN, for having tutorials and stuff back when I was learning.
Phantomskyfire's (CMSF-Fever, for those who don't believe they're the same person) RP - Ticondera, for having a CCMU limit so terrible that I had to make RP - Feyvern. The rest of the map was good though, and did have some influence on Feyvern as well, it wasn't just the CCMU limit.
Joseph Conrad, for writing the book Heart of Darkness.
Fyodor Dostoevsky, for writing the book Crime and Punishment, and The Brothers Karamazov.
Leo Tolstoy, for writing War and Peace.

Also, this wasn't really an influence, but I'd like to thank OTM_Shank for making Zoids 3v3 RPG.

As good as a map that is, especially for its time, I have a love/hate relationship with that map. It really abuses the whole non-stop respawning enemy bullshit which has plagued almost every rpg ever since that one. Why do mappers think respawning enemies in blocky clumps is a good idea?

Also whoever made the original Crash RPG and Chrono Trigger RPG were big influences on my early days as a mapper.

lol.. actually you're right.. :\ .. the original Dota wasn't even by Icefrog really.. And since i took only the basic basic ideas... i guess he didn't inspire me... but whoever started AoS.. custom hero wars and etc i guess...

I'm not that old school to starcraft but who is Panzer_Kavalier...
All i know is that he was one epic map maker.

(He even has a Wikipedia page 0.o)

Probably bearcatfan, I think there are some underscores somewhere in there but I don't remember where they go. Sorceries II RPG. Blizzard and one of my cousins influenced me to start mapping though. (My first map ever finished was a halo map on space terrain for the first starcraft. Ah, I remember the total impossibility of winning. When I found out about scmdraft, I made a halo map. That was fun because I thought toggle would open and close doors (as in make what it wasn't) but the doors just opened and closed nonstop. That was also fun. Man... that was when I made stuff.

I remember I used to fight/argue/something with him a lot for no reason that I can recall... Probably just trolling. I remember it ended with my brother beating him in melee for some reason.
I've only seen bounds by him.. ;o

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

really influenced?

Tuxedo-Templar for his text based trigger writing (with notepad++ and custom trigger language and macros)... (yeahhh thx man ;D).

I don't know who influenced me in my past. I guess that were mostly maps I liked.

I feel that my internet came to late. Else I would have been there since 2002 instead of 2005.
I just looked at the first maps that I made for bnet. Mostly defenses, a HGMA copy (not X-i Defense), a DOTA style map which led to another DOTA style map.
After 1.5 years of failing I made my biggest suc(c/k)ess: Random Bunker Def...

I still think that nobody inspired me. There was no mapper that I knew that well that days.
If I would have started 1 year ago, I guess Aszala or E.x.c.i.t.i.n.g (their maps) would have influenced me.

With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort
