Since sc2 will be coming out soon (a year or so) I thought it would be a good idea to rip all the text from the 'in-game movie scenes' as well as the pre game mission briefings and compile it into 1 text document as well as an Mp3 to play as you read along.
This way when sc2 comes out people like me won't have to replay all the missions from both SC & BW to refresh their memories.
I grabbed a couple MPQ viewers to try and see if I can extract the campaign maps and then just sift through them and pull out all the text/wavs but they only seem to find pcx files and unit sound effects.
So how do I go about doing this?
PS- has someone already done this?
None.
all campaign files are in install.exe (on the disk)
None.
I don't want videos and such, I just want the voice .wavs from the mission briefings and 'in game movie sequences' with their corresponding texts.
How do I extract these from the Disc or install.exe?
None.
You want the .scx and .scm files from the campaign, along with all the sound files, right? Those are all in Install.exe, which is on the broodwar disc. Open Install.exe with WinMPQ or some other viewer.
None.
how can i tell what is what in the install.exe ? Nothing has a file type or name..

Download MPQ Listfiles.
In MPQ options, specify the Listfile for Starcraft Broodwar.txt
Also, there are no SCM's within the Install .exe's, only the maps that link to the corresponding waves elsewhere in the MPQ, usually under the same file tree. Just type in "*.wav" in the box top right and extract them all.

bump. I never figured out how to do this, anyone care to help?
None.
Does that extract the .wav files and put them where they go, too? I don't remember. lol
If so, does it also put in the ones that were disabled in certain maps but still included in install.exe? IIRC, there are some sounds that some maps reference, but the triggers are disabled.
None.
Yes it does. You can load the map in StarEdit and go to the WAV manager and play them. I didn't check the maps for if the wavs are used.. I just loaded all the wav files I found in each campaign's path in the mpq.
