I have four red rings when my Xbox turns on, and it doesn't sound like it usually does. I feel my fan is going bad from being left alone then used constantly for about two weeks, is there any way to repair the fan and keep my Xbox running without having to send it to microsoft and wait for a new one?

you cant really "repair the fan" (Unless your a techie), what you can do is clean the fan, buy an intercooler, or play with your xbox's case open (aka take out the outer shell, though doing this would make your xbox fragile)

My uncle had all red rings (cept 1), and after just simply cleaning that melted shit on the processors, it removed them all.
also... http://www.google.com <--- there's ALOT of guides out there for fixing RRoD. (Mainly youtube)
What I would do : [I used this method with my uncle, I can't find the guide that he used tho... btw his 360 works fine now]
Dismantle the 360 (Its way easier than you think. A T10 screwdriver or something, some small screws and nuts.. etc.. oh and a hair dryer! And lots of q-tips lol)
After you've dismantled it, get some thermal cleaner+q tips and clean off all that goop on the processor (that silverish stuff. when it's all clean you should see a nice "Intel" processor there!) btw i burned through alot of q-tips doing this... (we used like 30, lol..) When the processors are both cleaned, simply restore everything back to normal (Without those x-clamps). Oh, if you have your harddrive unplugged, do NOT connect to live, otherwise you'll get banned. so make sure its properly connected before going on live. Before reassembling it though, I would do a 'test' run to force it to get RRoD. What my uncle did was turn on the 360 (with it still open and stuff, we just plugged in the power) and use a hair dryer (on cool) to blow on the processor. After 15 minutes, if it was still green, (Which it was) we then turned off the hair dryer and let it run for another 15 minutes. (everything was disassembled, so the fan that came with the 360 was somewhere on the table) and soon enough,. the RRoD came back, (we did this on purpose, its part of the process :O). If you dont get the red rings, then it's fixed, if you do, but got green with that hair dryer, its still fixed! (thats a win-win situation O.o). Put everything back together, turn up your 360, and it should be green. If not, go to google. If google phails (never!) and you still have a valid warranty, send it to microsoft.

p.s. do NOT do that towel crap. It's temporary and it can potentially fuck up your xbox even more.

4 red lights on the ring means you don't have any A/V cable attached (either from the A/V port or the HDMI out). Check your cable to make sure it is connected properly to the Xbox 360. If you have another cable you could use, try it and see if it works.

Note that the 4 red lights error only comes up if you don't have the cable attached to the Xbox 360, but it doesn't matter if there is nothing on the other end of the A/V cable (not sure on the HDMI; haven't tested whether it does it on that, too).

Edit:

Oh, according that link above, HDMI versions don't have the 4 red lights error. I didn't know that. I sold my older one and I've never really turned on my newer one without a cable attached.

Thigh high affectionado

If the problem continues, unplug EVERYTHING, remove the HDD, blow on it and its port, then reattach everything and turn it on.

Ive fixed 6 friends red rings with this problem in the past ;o

You shouldn't let them see what you do to fix it and then make them pay for your services.

If you break the seal to open it up, it does void the warranty. Any Xbox 360 console made at least since September 2006 still has a warranty against the 3 red lights error (3 years from manufacture date), except if the warranty has been voided by breaking the seal.

Anyway, most of the things that have been posted here likely aren't applicable to the opening post, because it is the 4 red lights error, not 3 red lights. As I and at least one other person have stated, 4 red lights has to do with the A/V cable being unplugged (or broken). I seem to recall there being another possible cause for it, but I don't remember what. I think it is unrelated to the cause of the 3 red lights error, though.

👻 👾 👽 💪

Quick wikipedia check:
Quote
Some have confused General Hardware Failure with a similar looking error warning where four red lights appear, in which case the console does not detect an AV cable is plugged in.[7] The four lights can sometimes also be seen when power surges or very brief power outages occur while the console is running, in which the console needs to be unplugged and plugged back in again to reset the error. Two red lights appear when the system is overheated.

This is not an A/V cable problem, I already tested the cables and the other cords multiple times. I even tried setting it up in a different part of the house, all before I even posted this. To be more specific about the rings, Three bright red rings light up and then one dark red right lights up. If thats the same exact thing, The XBOX must be telling me the wrong thing.

OK, that's 3, not 4. You're probably just seeing the light spilling over into the other section.

Check the manufacture date on the back of your system. Is it less than 3 years old? If so and if your system has never been opened up, you can (and should) get Microsoft to repair or replace it for free. If it is a system that you got used, gently take off the front cover so you can see if the warranty seal is still intact. (or even if you got it new, if you just want to be sure) Microsoft will not do a free repair or replacement of the system if the seal is not intact.

The RRoD is not repairable. It is caused by the motherboard warping due to overheating, and must be replaced. You can not repair the motherboard yourself. If you take it out, a special chip made by IBM will destroy the circuitry in the rest of the device (same thing that happens if you run Linux on it). You must replace your device.

Yeah, DM, this is microsoft we're talking about.
