Playing SC Online On A Network

I currently have 2 computers connected via cat5 cable right into my wire/wireless router. I can play on mine perfectly fine with my buddy at his house, but when my brother gets on using the other computer that is connected to the network it won't let both of them into the game I am hosting. If I host and my buddy joins, my brother can't see the screen and it doesn't show he is there on my computer. If my brother makes then I can join, but my buddy can't see the screen and we don't see him in the waiting screen to go into the match. When he makes the match and either of us try to join then it says for us that his latency is too high! What the heck is wrong with this and why doesn't this want to work for like anything on Battle.net anymore these days?

(MY HOUSE=Me and my brother) --------- (FRIENDS HOUSE=Friend... lol)

-I make game, friend can join, brother can't

-Brother makes game, I can join, friend can't

- Friend makes game, I can't join, brother can't join

It's because you and your brother are using the same port, so you both are getting half the data, if you change what port SC uses in the registry I think it will work. I think it's under the Battle.net Configuration.

Any idea on where to find something like that to change? Maybe within the StarCraft programs folder?

Start -> Run -> regedit

Change that number.

Thigh high affectionado

Suprisingly SC can handle lan games perfectly, bnet games semi par, but when you mix em together you get a mess of lag and lat.

While not the best solution, however when you need one and cant figure out how to mess with regedit or too scared, hamachi is the way to go, else listen to Falk and chuiu.

I got told to stay away from regedit, and that I should be scared of it.

Hmm lets see....

It's like open heart surgery, if you touch things your not supposed to touch you can fuck everything up. But in the end it is necessary to fix/ get things done.

y/n?

n. I go on random deleting sprees and have have had no troubles ever. :hurr: If you are staying within SC, nothing bad will happen unless you screw with InstallPath (and a couple other in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE).

The port change seems sooo simple.. Can't something be done to reverse the change if it doesn't work?

Mar 16 2009, 3:22 am Falkoner Post #12

Yeah, you just change it back to 6112 :P

Seriously, for some reason people are ridiculously scared of the registry, what it comes down to is if you keep your nose out of parts that you have no idea what it is, you won't screw anything major up.

she/her

I need help.

My registry does not have the Game Data Port value. Well, it does now since I created it and changed it to 6113. But, I have no idea whether or not my games will actually use 6113 now.

Can anybody help?

Mar 19 2009, 9:36 pm Falkoner Post #14

They should use it now, as long as you made it correctly, however, you may want to port forward the new port as well as the old one(6112 and 6113).

Is it in HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. If you installed Starcraft then it should be located under CURRENT_USER but if you made it in LOCAL_MACHINE then it wont work. If you're unsure just provide a screenshot.

I've got the same problem. I tried looking in the regedit ( exhilarating) but the screenshot chuiu provided doesn't look like my screen - the 6112 thing isn't there. Help!

I can't even figure out how to make starcraft games though :|

ok, that's the right place. Add a new DWORD value called Game Data Port
For the value, make sure you put it on "Decimal" before you type the port number.

How to put it on Decimal?

It would be in the window that comes up when you edit the value. If you don't see it when you are editing the value, you made the wrong kind of value. As stated, it should be a DWORD value named Game Data Port and you should create it at the place you had open in the screen shot.
