Hello, fritfrat! I think I rememeber the map was mentioned somewhere even earlier then the thread was started a year ago...

Some.

Mar 3 2009, 11:34 pm fritfrat Post #43

It was. This map was started in late 2006, on the old SEN that is gone, I think. Either way, DevliN put up that original thread post in one of the first few replies to this one.

Hopefully I can get to taxes on trading mortgaged properties tonight :)

Noice... boardgames on starcraft always seemed to be way too many trigs for me. Good Luck though it looks sick; a replica.

Hello all,
My monopoly map is coming to a completion! There is mainly a lot of cosmetic stuff left to do; see the first post for a full list of everything I am going to add.
However, I find it a good time to release a public BETA. I am stripped for time recently, and any help testing would be great. Please just write down any bugs you come across as well as any cosmetic changes not already listed on the front page that will help make the game easier to play and understand.

I look forward to the release of the map! Thanks all.

EDIT: Download link removed. See new post below for newer version.

Finally... I did test it :D
It's very cool... though I do not have my name in testers :(
... not like if it would matter, but anyways... it's always nice to have some honour :)

Nice!

I have to say that the new terrain and player color scheme is much much better; far more pleasant and easier on the eyes.

:payne:

People I've tested with: Kaias, Lethal_Illusion
Signed up testers: DevliN, urmom(U), Oo.Rehab.oO, Vi3t-X / Icy-, Snipe)r(, bg-payne

Maybe a lil' update? ;P

And also, add these things in your to-do list (I haven't checked it out and I know you've said it to me, but anyways, I re-write them :P):
- Ping on players
- Nicer trade
- Fix COP
- Broodling is dying... I had it mortgaged so it ruined the game, somewhat xD
- When someone leaves with mortgaged properties and they go in auction, the options you get to choose when you buy them are buggy... a property got deleted (it was still owned by me, but I couldn't un-mortgage it)
- When doing an auction on a property, it would be cool to know the price we would normally pay for it
- And others ^^

Attached is an updated version, fixing a bug having to do with collecting rent with hotels. The tester list is also updated.

For payne's list-
Ping is already in to do list.
How do you recommend making the trade better? Mainly, what did you find non-intuitive?
COP is already fixed.
Broodling should not be dying; I remember checking to make sure it was create unit and not CUWP. Is there any other way for a broodling to die? I will add a failsafe either way that if you have a crystal and no broodling to create a new broodling.
What do you think about adding the list price of the unit as the unit's armor, replacing rent with no houses?
And tell me the others :P thanks for your input, payne.

As I put on my updates page, I think there is a good chance the map can be released by the end of a couple weeks at this rate. Also, any ideas on what I should name it, as not to confuse it with Norm's monopoly game?

EDIT: Attachment removed. See last page for most recent version.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

I've been solo-testing, promise! I actually found one bug before (that involved letting me roll again before ending my turn) but can't remember if I maybe ended the turn mindlessly or if it really was said bug. I'll try to see if it happens again.

EDIT:
And you're totally an expert on Monopoly rules so I had a quick question: when I landed on a property I couldn't afford and basically chose to turn it into a bidding war, I was able to buy it for $10. Obviously that wouldn't happen in a multiplayer situation, but I always remembered the bidding starting at the price of the property. Is that not true?

no its not true bidding starts at zero

fritfrat
idk how your minimum bidding works for bidding on auctioned stuff but some lil pompus twirp usually bids one dollar over everything you bid minimum upping bid on that would be nice if it was $5-$10 as well.

to frit frat i seriously can't believe you've never played a game of monopoly and not had a house bidding war. One of the pivital ways to keep yourself from having to pay out so much is to buy up all the houses then force the lousy bastard(s) your playing against to sell his 2-3 hotels (must build evenly) when he only need sell a house to pay for a rent that wouldn't have cost him squat.

Normally you won't run into a situation where you end up competeing for houses until after people have used all the houses up, but sometimes your forced to sell a house and when you go to buy it back someone else may be buying it back also. it's a great way to get your opponents to over paying for some of the silly little houses and suck their money out the window.

Btw i hope norm finishing his map really does push you along because this is a great game and it requires mortgaging.

out of curiosity who gets the house if two people want it? the one that clicked it first?

May 2 2009, 5:51 am fritfrat Post #52

Killer_sss, it is currently set up so whoever buys the house first (i.e. gets their unit there first) gets the house. You're the first person to post that seems to be into monopoly enough to realize that it does affect the game that the last houses are auctioned off :) I think in a computerized system like StarCraft it can probably be sufficient to have it so the first person to move gets it.. like I said in my original post, I will definitely see if I can implement actual auctions in a later release, as well as the revert trade system for declaring bankruptcy.

Auction intervals are a bit too high at the moment imo.. they go 10 20 40 60 80 100 130 160 190 220.. and then by 30's for a while. I think I am going to make it by 20's all the way up until 400 and then increase the interval.

I've had plenty of games where the number of houses left becomes crucial, but never where they were actually auctioned off. Maybe I just need to play more competent players :P

And DevliN, thank you for your testing! Is it safe to assume you don't mind me attributing the terrain to you still even though I changed the colors around a little? :)

Why don't you just have increments in their actual Monopoly values? The version Lethal showed me had values like "160" and "140" which I found to be rather shocking and odd.

None.

May 3 2009, 4:17 am fritfrat Post #55

What are you talking about? In actual monopoly, you just overbid each person by however much you want; there IS no actual value. If each bid increased by 1 dollar it would take forever, and if each bid increased by something like 30-50 dollars, people who would normally outbid wouldn't be because the other person doesn't want to pay so much. As far as whether or not to have pre-set numbers, I have seen it in every computerized monopoly I've ever played, and making people figure out their own numbers to bid would just make it more complicated and take longer.

If you mean increment from values of the actual properties, the values of the actual properties go up by 20's from 100 to 320, too, which is actually exactly what I proposed.. what, exactly, did you find shocking and odd?

:payne:

- Show messages to everyone (events, cards, etc...)
- When landing directly on GO, shouldn't we get more bucks than simply passing it? And passing it should give us 100, no?

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

I've never heard of the landing on Go rule. That may just be a house rule similar to the Free Parking thingamajiggy. And I believe it's always been $200 when passing Go, it even says that on the actual board.

Each time a player's token lands on or passes over GO, whether by throwing the dice or drawing a card, the Banker pays that player a $200 salary.

from the official rule book. and yes landing on go and recieving more cash is a house rule. Sometimes i play with $400 for landing on and the free parking but as frat has said its only gona make the game last longer. I usually only use this rule when playing with 2 people as it can allow for some pretty amazing battles.

How does getting hotels FASTER make the game any longer? I would actually look FORWARD to the ability to play the custom rules such as Land on Go = 400$, land on free parking = 500$ or land on free parking = 500$ + Money colected from Luxary Tax and Income Tax. Cant be THAT hard...

More money going around means it's harder to eliminate someone, that's basic. You might get hotels faster, but in the endgame you're also earning lots more income from the banker, making it much much harder to knock someone out.

I'm looking forward to giving this map a shot.

Without housing limits/auctions and with free parking the game is entirely luck, unless you can exploit some dumb sap.
