If anything it's underrated.

Know that if you got in on the rhythm games from Guitar Hero 3, it will be maddeningly difficult.

After a break-in at my neighbors', we didn't set up a security system.

Instead, we bought some 'Secured by ADT' yardsigns and window-stickers to scare people off. Obviously not as effective, but it is better than nothing.

It wouldn't really mater even if you had an actually ADT security system. Anything short of your house blowing up because the code was not entered in due time or entered incorrectly just fails. Like A_of-s_t said, it just takes to long for an actual authority figure to arrive at your residence. Same thing with bank roberys. When they hit the alarm button at a bank, it gets sent to a security company, usually out of state, and then they, from what I have herd and understand, call the bank to figure out whats wrong, and to see if it was hit by accident. Keep in mind, this could take about 2 minutes for the security company to call and realize that nobody is picking up. Once the security company has established that there is something wrong with one of there clients, they call the local police. By the time the police actually get there, the whole operation could be done and over with. Same goes for security systems at ones own residence.

Oh and keep in mind, if someone wants to break into your house, they're going to get in, one way or another.

Exactly. There's nothing we can really _do_, but It's at least a funny story to share.

Get one of these:

Bull Mastiff motherfuckers.

If I actually wanted a guard dog, I'd go Irish Wolfhound.

I believe the man in the first picture is around 6'4".
Photoshopped.

Nope. They're the largest breed of dog in the world, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_wolfhound.

(Well, tallest, anyways. I guess technically St. Bernards and a couple others are 'larger')

Haha, we have an ADT sign in our front window, and several extremely conspicuous cameras in windows all over the house, that aren't even actually hooked up :P

The period screws up the syntax.

Wow. I'd heard of people doing the ADT sign thing, but never actual cameras. How much did that set you back?

They were cheap little cameras, that don't actually work unless you set up a receiver and hook them into your TV. One of my friends for years thought that they were real, before I finally told him :P

Watson would love you.

But, security systems suck. A well thought through break in can circumvent any security system and a well thought out disguise can fool anyone. Hell, I could get anywhere in a government building if I dress right and look like I know what I'm doing. If I were to ever rob a house, I'd make sure it didn't look like I actually robbed the place.

sry, it was me.

The motion sensors they use are lulzy. The one at my parent's office would turn a little light on even when disarmed. I used to walk as slowly as I could without turning that little light on. ;o It's not hard.

Man, that really sucks, Syphon. Being robbed is one of my biggest worries.

He may not have taken much because he was on foot and couldn't carry/conceal anything bulky (so probably looking for cash and other easy carriables, with a quick snack as an afterthought), and maybe got spooked. If he did see what all you have, a return visit isn't unlikely (he knows the layout, he may feel more confident and have a car nearby). Definitely up whatever security you can, if only as a deterrent. For every intelligent thief, you have an exponential amount of amateurs and ignorant fools. Cameras and security systems might not deter an experienced thief, but they'll certainly panic the inept. Perception is your weapon.

Protection of your house is analogous to protection of a map.

That's really odd someone would drill out a lockset and then not take anything? wtf? Maybe drug related?

I never lock any of my shit ever. My keys are usually in the ignition or on the floor board of my cars. Our back door is never locked. Not sure if we even have a key for it? Of course I live in a hippie town on the west coast so things are a little different. I had a $500 dollar putter stolen from me once, but that was on vacation in Hawaii and it was locked in the trunk of a car out of sight.. go figure.

.. cool your dad made the hall of fame! sweet. That school has to be back east tho. Lacrosse? They play that in highschool on the east coast? I thought that was only a collegiate sport. And why aren't there any Black athletes in that hall of fame? Not even track and field? wtf?
