I don't post often but I do read from time to time.
Few things happen. First, school is getting difficult, but I'm done in spring so I can find a nice job. Second of all, fell in love. Third of all, I'm still somewhat of a gamer and have other things to do. With these things, I don't have the motivation or time to create/run another map making site. It's been fun folks, but I'm on the sidelines now.
When SC2 rolls around I intend on helping out around here, but I'll be brutally honest. The reason why I had so much time for SEN way back when is because I was still in high school (I've never paid attention in class, I'm extremely good at learning things on my own but public school systems don't leave much way for self learning), I had time out the ass back then. Now that's not as much the case.
I know before I left it kindof open with the future of maplantis. I think now I can say that changes. Even if SEN dies tomorrow, I'm not bringing Maplantis back. That's it, it's a chapter of my life which is complete and I am pretty proud of what I achieved. I've moved on. IP, Moose, and whatever other site operators/coders now take the torch. This is the end of my legacy
I mostly play Team Fortress 2 but recently got Left 4 Dead. I always liked online games for the challenge, however it seems like I'm going to be drawn away from gaming in general because it's radically changing too much. My favorite companies:
Epic - Screwed up the new unreal tournament and decided they are no longer a PC developer, instead they are a console developer.
Blizzard - Has yet to screw up anything, but WoW and the activision merge probably screwed up Blizzard for good. The release of SC2/D3 will be the deciding factor of this... I'll be sure to tell you guys all about it on launch day.
Valve - Is listening too much to the retarded steam community. TF2 was a good game when it came out with a solid mix of casual-hardcore gaming, but slowly was tweaked for casual gaming. There's very little fun challenges about it anymore. The same thing appears to be happening with Left4Dead, the same idiots who screwed up TF2 are now switching targets.
So, I don't know how much longer I'll be seriously into gaming.
How do you exactly see this working out? Someone codes everything for you, and you are the full admin of the site? Or do you have coding experience, and can help out? Will there be a partership? What's the skin for? Is it just a remake of maplantis, and keeping the name?
I'm not a huge fan of copying someone elses work. If I were to do this I'd do everything from scratch. Which is a HELL OF a LOT of work.
Right now I just here you saying "I want someone to make me these!" Not really offering anything in return. What does the person who does this for you get in return? That is probably the main reason as to why noone is responding with much.
I'd probably help out with this, but if you're keeping the name and want the exact same skin I want to talk to Yoshi about this first. Add my msn, and we will discuss.
I'm really glad that you're realizing what it took to do what I used to do. When I started it seemed a lot easier in my head then it actually turned out to be, and you probably see now why I stopped maplantis in the first place, the upkeep of a complex site requires a great deal of time. However if I could go back and undo the time I spent on it, I wouldn't change a thing. It was a lot of fun. Treasure it while it lasts, and make as few enemies as possible, trust me on that.
BTW, as for the skin, anyone is welcome to as they please with recreations, just do not claim ownership, please don't make a new site called "maplantis", and maybe leave a acknowledgment that me and iceflare made it (with a link back to latova or sen, but that's optional). I'm not going to use it ever again so there's no point in pretending like I'm an Intellectual Property whore like our good friends in the movie/music industries.
