And he's very sad and wants to hang out tonight. I'm not a very sympathetic person, and I have no idea what to do in this situation! It's gonna be so awkward!

Help! have any of you normal humans had to go through something like this? Teach me your human ways.

Just hang out, anything that will distract him, you don't have to talk about the subject, THAT would be awkward + he probably doesn't want to talk about so.

Something that you both would distract with, dunno, video games, throwing eggs at random doors...

Go and comfort him. Say there are lots of other hot chicks. Okay, maybe don't do that last one. Most people I know don't really have serious, serious, relationships, like I'm want marry you in ten years serious.

pot

Watch a movie or something that would require him to pay attention and not talk.

Or pot.

Bring a violent video game that allows for vs or co op. That works for most of my guy friends.

edit: tell him to bring all the crap she left at his house and burn it. :)

Usually I have better fulfilling advice to give out to others, but I am going to use one that I found to work with one of my friends and I.

Take him to his favorite store, and convince him to buy something expensive that he has been meaning to buy anyway/ has wanted to buy for awhile. If he is a close friend like the one in my situation was then you should have no problem finding an item. If he is unsure about the purchase, jokingly remind him that he will have some extra cash to toss around due to the break-up.

This should then occupy him for the next few days to come. Even by then he should be less caring of his recent relationship. Basically he will be filling the void in his heart with another love and/or passion.

This plan might not work if the relationship has been a long lasting one, but it worked pretty well for me with my friend and his half decent relationship.

Best of luck!

It's a shame I really don't agree with a single argument you made."

Do you usually 'hang out' with your best friend? If you do, then it's nothing new - just act as you would act usually. You don't have to offer sympathy, you have to offer companionship.

Booze and chocolate works for me.

You don't really need to do anything except listen and be there for him.

“Friends and neighbors complain that taxes are indeed very heavy, and if those laid on by the government were the only ones we had to pay, we might the more easily discharge them; but we have many others, and much more grievous to some of us. We are taxed twice as much by our idleness, three times as much by our pride, and four times as much by our folly.”

I had a friend - still do - who was engaged to my older sister. When my sister broke it off, she left the ring with my parents so that they could give it back to him. I told them I would do it, and my parents were freaking out. They didn't want it to be awkward or anything, I told them not to worry, completely unaware of what could possibly make it awkward. So anyways, I go to his house and all I say is, "look what I have for you!" he politely thanked me and then ran up to his room quickly. He came back with one of my sister's stuffed animals, and a pair of underwear. I put it in my car and we went and loitered around. That was the end of that. He is now quite happily engaged to someone who is like me (so much its creepy), except much prettier, if that could be imagined. D:

Long story short...he might have a thicker skin than you think.

Why does it have to be violent? Stereotypical of a female I suppose ;o

Well, the fact that he's after a princess in an emotional nexus in between them implies that the video game character has a superior love life than your in real life friend. Yeah, I'd get depressed when I see that Mario, a video game character, get kissed by a cute princess and I just got ditched.
