The sword and the faith

Your harddrive is IDE. You bought one that is SATA. You need to buy a SATA data cable and a SATA power cable.

This is assuming your motherboard has SATA ports. It should.

See the blue things? Those.

You'd be better of getting them in the store however if you MUST order them:

If you can get me the make/model of your motherboard I can tell you if it has SATA ports. In all probability it does.

👻 👾 👽 💪

Top one is PATA. Bottom one is SATA. If you have no SATA slots, get a SATA PCI card or something.

Aw. Ex beat me. :P

Hear me Raor!!

You can always get combo ones also, so you dont need to get two differnt cables.
If your computer is pretty old, motherboard may not even support sata though. If thats the case its time to upgrade ><!

Considering they should each run no more than 3$ each at the worst and that Echo isn't into cable management, I doubt it'd be necessary. ^^

I only have 2 of those ports instead of 4. Do I still have to buy these two things?

Motherboard ID 63-0100-001131-00101111-092205-P4M800+$P4M800-M7_P4M800-M7 RELEASE 09/22/2005

Motherboard Name ECS P4M800-M7

And holy shit. Buying those two things together makes the shipping sky rocket more than what it is worth.
Would Best Buy sell these things?

Hear me Raor!!

Yeah like 10 dollars ><! after shipping if you buy them together. Thats not too bad of a price I'm not sure if best buy would have it, But if you look for like a local computer shop they might.
I found an even cheaper one, this is both so its only 1 cable Only cable you need

After seeing my motherboard, do you guys think it's a better idea to return it and get a different one or just get the cables?

Echo, you should check your power supply first for a SATA power cable. Unless by "doesn't fit" you mean it doesn't have one? Most PSUs these days do..

Aug 15 2009, 6:38 am Echo Post #16

Yup. I just ordered the power cable. Hopefully it would work after.

A computer branch near me sold adapters for $1 ^^.
Suppose it's a little too late for you now.

You already have the data cable then?

I don't really know any small computer stores around me. And no, I ordered both the data cable and power :P.
