Do you manage to plant all 400 seeds in one day? Because for 8 hours that's 1:10 minutes per seed. Sounds more like a 12 hour job, and for $48 that sounds terrible.
I manage to plant an average of 1700 trees per day. (Total of trees planted this season: 41395, average tree price: 10,5 cents)
On a good day, a tree doesn't take much more than 4 seconds to plant. It takes skills though. Tree planting has an enormous learning curve, hence why you start making money only after a whole week of work.
You need some boots... those shoes ain't for workin! I feel bad for you because often times I do logging for the company I work for and I cut down those trees that you work to replant (and you get paid much much much worse than I do), however I will argue that my end of the deal is extremely dangerous and physically challenging as well. I run up those hills with a chainsaw and cut and cut and cut all day sometimes.
What's your wage?
He gets paid less than minimum wage.
Untrue. In fact, my best day was of 220$ in a few hours. At the end of the season, I was fast enough to reach over 25$/h on good terrain. (Remember it is piecework: you get paid based on the number of trees you put in the ground.)
Some people average over 300$ per day easily. I have heard of people making 600$ per day on average.
It's basically the same with cherry picking: piecework, and I reach a good over 20$/h. It's a bit harder to make money in fruit picking, but at least there's no bug, nor crazy bush-walking with heavy lifting.
Anyways, hello SEN!
I am leaving tonight for the Yukon. Hitch-hiking as usual.
My friends and I will stop at Whitehorse, build a raft, and go down a good 1200km portion of the Yukon River.
Anyways, wish me good luck, and here are more pictures:
The movement you repeat hundreds of time per day. "I bend over for dimes."
The day a pole of my tent broke. It poured that night, and my shelter wasn't good enough, so I slept 2 hours on a chair in front of a motel. ;o
The pipe I carved while tree planting.
Taking advantage of the hail: filling up with ice our improvised cooler filled with dumpster diving.
Making potatoes on the top of a mountain.
Keremeos' mountain. Still haven't climbed it, but it's coming! Maybe next year.
Our improvised camp site's fridge and cool bench.
Hard mornings in desert climate. This picture is hilarious in my opinion. The tents are always too hot with the morning sun.
I like this picture.
Just chillin', on our way to Vancouver.
None.
