But this is 200 years in the future! Surely by then everyone will be smart enough to know that being limited by range is stupid. :P

Lightsabers are hardly even an improvement over normal swords. Seriously, all they do is cauterize the wounds they make. :P

NO U. They can deflect laser beams! And then they can be used as medical equipment by closing wounds! Its the ultimate melee weapon.
