So I was messing around with floating drones, trying to get them to float spontaneously. This happens when you have many stacked onto a single square, and one will randomly walk off of it quite a distance. However I had placed these squares where the floating drones were created at the lower right corner of the map. (Near that region where you can place tiles but can't place units.)
Anyway, after placing some power ups at the very bottom of the map, some of the drones would actually move into the tiles in which they are not supposed to go into, completely disappearing from view. Eventually some of these disappeared units started crashing the map, which I assume means they had left the map region, however it was possible to maintain and keep the drones below the menu box, but still in the game. These drones ended up randomly crashing at various times, essentially creating Schrödinger's cat. I'm not sure if making the terrain at the very bottom walkable would keep the units below the menu, which could help stop random crashing. (Because the units wouldn't be trying to move someplace.)

I don't know if this is useful, or if it is already known, but I thought it was kinda neat being able to place a bunch of units in a spot that nobody could view.

I've already seen in some maps hydralisks almost leaving the map by its edge. I think it was when we played with sprite units of ID > 255.
I think that making units leave the map could be dangerours, and only useful for helping tux to crash his maps at the very end of them :P

Hmm, interesting concept :P Imagine hiding units there, that attack you from nowhere :) Also, if you want to make drones float, Oblivion hacks have a drone float hack that allows you to float them anywhere on the map, as long as they are cornered first.
Sexy Signature Pending....

If they aren't forced all the way off, they will sit until something forces them further out or back in.
Wheeee!

I've noticed this in my Black Holes map. Often the units on junkyard dog will partways off the map, because of the walkable null. I've seen this with all different types of units.

Of course! I saw that in DW's Zero Clutter map!

AfterLifeLochie -- If we were to create a peice of code that creates an index, we could then assign a label to each 'area' it finds. Unfortunatley, I see what you mean: this would be impractical.

Mini Moose 2707 -- W/E, it stays outdated for now. I'm really sleepy.
