I would bet that, like most other forums I see these weird numbers on, many of those guests are bots. While unrelated to the search (afaik anyways), on their own they can cause problems.
Has anything been done about this?

What's wrong with it? Last time I checked it worked fine. Or do you mean quick search (which should just point to regular search for now)?
The Search function would sometimes be the cause of the MySQL errors.

There have been less of them ever since search was removed.

I haven't actually seen any severe-long lasting errors since search was removed. The errors that do occur are ostensibly due to too many users connecting to SEN simultaneously and are pretty transient.

I've had 4 mysql errors tonight, but all took place during the banning spree so I assume it has more to do with that specifically.
