How can you miss those kinds of games? It's not like they've magically disappeared or anything...

To go back to what the discussion was about a page ago or so. It's not really a case of whether or not graphics or hardware specs improve over the next few years, it's more to do with the competitive market that the consoles rely on.

As soon as Nintendo or Microsoft or Sony make a statement that they have been working on, or are planning a 'next-gen' console, it becomes a race. Regardless of the graphics, the hardware, the processing speed, the hard-drive etc... if you release your console first, you are going to be ahead in sales. That's not to say that graphics and hardware is important, but the market is saturated with - as mentioned - 'casual' gamers, and 'fucking frat boys'. The last console I owned was the X-Box (not even 360). Before that, it was the PS-1. And before that was the N-64. And back to the days of Sega Megadrive and the Golden China (I bet no-one ever had one of those).

The same 'game', both Ninja Gaiden. One 30 years old for the NES, the other for the PS3.

Since Halo, I've lost all interest in console games. Partly because the 360 came out, and I upgraded my computer about a month before. But mainly because consoles and their respective games are so fucking expensive, you can spend 20% of that money on upgrading your gaming rig, and have a 100% better machine... Not to mention the fucking keyboard and mouse... and internet.. and watching videos... and the countless other things a computer can do that a console can't.

Well, less and less people are playing the Wii nowadays, so Nintendo probably wants to get back into the competition in that category. Microsoft and Sony already said that they don't plan on making another console for a few more years.
