My summer is going to kick ass: I haven't submitted any request for any university just because I wanted to have no time rush.
1. As soon as I finish school, I leave for a little trek with some friends. Probably a 3-4 days trek.
2. One day after the return from that trek, I leave for my bike trip of 270 Km in a single day. The return will probably last 2 days because of the wind's direction. I'll do this with 1 friend, and possible 1 other which hasn't confirmed yet.
3. I take 1-2 days to prepare my bike for the Vancouver-Montréal trip I'll do at the very end of my "summer". It must be ready for my parents to ship it by plane to my position at any time during the summer.
4. I then leave home, hitch-hiking to Vancouver. I'm currently planning on spending exactly 0$ for a shelter during the whole summer. I should thus leave home around 1st of June. And this hitch-hike lasts approximately 2 weeks according to some friends.
5. Once I arrive at Vancouver, I start seeking for tree planting companies. I will have gathered the position of the contracts of many companies and will go from one spot to another until I get hired. Usually, there are some rookies that leave because the job is too demanding, so I have quite good chances of getting hired. The planting season ends around late August.
6. I had planned on leaving for Banff after the planting season, but in the end, I decided to extend the activity of the #7. I wanted to do some mountaineering at Banff.
7. I hitch-hike to the house of a guy I met online on the Wilderness Survival forum. I will live with him in his house for about 1 week or less in order to make sure we both aren't risking our lives by going into the wild with an extremely inexperienced rookie. We plan on staying in the wilderness between 4 and 20 days, depending on how well we're doing. Basically, the equipment list should be very short: clothes, knives, bear spray and rope. We might add more to the list, but so far it looks like we are agreeing on this.
8. I hitch-hike back to Vancouver and call my parents so they send me my bike and I then start my Vancouver-Montréal trip alone.
I really wish I could be 100% sure I'll get hired as a tree planter, though.
I'm still writing that message I'll send the companies in order to obtain their contracts' positions. (Talking of that message, I'll probably contact privately one of you guys in order to make sure it's well written.)
I got an internship doing research on organic solar cell degradation at the US Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO! My hope is that I'll be living in Boulder so I can actually do some fun stuff (under 21 clubbing hopefully). But I'm definitely going to try to do some hiking at the Rocky Mountain National Park and hopefully some rock climbing as well.
Oh god, we should meet up and do some climbing together, no kidding!
When will you be around there? Where
exactly? What level are you? Which accreditations do you have?
None.
