The Execute ability has been added to the Mayor. He can choose one person to publicly execute on the first day, and the first day only.

There are usually little to no clues available by the first day (and not much evidence either), so I'd prefer no first-day execution. Half the time a mayor is elected, the mayor turns out to be Mafia (or cult leader), and we end up losing a townie.
When will the game start? Hopefully not like Olimar's Duke Nukem Forever Mafia.

I think the general consensus is that execution should be allowed, as it has been a pretty traditional power of the Mayor's. If more people oppose it, I'd love to hear them plead their case, but for now, I'll just have it in the game.
