Still Napping

Okay, well I am a retired mapper, and I never did get my hands on the SC2 editor, but there is something I'm still yet willing to help with: mathematics. I adore mathematics for some god-awful reason. And due to my fondness of it, have developed quite strong mathematical skills, and am still learning (yay I'm a math major).

ANYWAY, I am basically information gathering on whether offering some math help service would be helpful to the mapping community (and help develop my math skills even more). I can write functions and algorithms that can get you what you want, or just help you with your math homework. So thoughts/comments/flying vegetables?

I did not vote, yet I need to say that maths is greatly improving the quality as you can now simply calculate an average of values chosen by a player or other stuff. All that was only possible with tons of triggers in sc1. I certainly know more than arethmetics only, but I nearly never use other functions of maths in a map.

Hey I put that because she asked for flying vegetables

I am a he =P
Also yes, flying zucchini is actually relevant.

All right, I have a mediocre set of data now, but the trends are becoming apparent. It seems like the best option from here is to go through and make some videos on some applications of mathematics in starcraft... So I shall actually continue my video series for now =P

Can't make a physics engine without mathematical functions. It so happens that the only map I'm making--for now, at least--requires some basic 3D-kinematics type stuff (i.e. projectile motion), so therefore I always use mathematical functions to make maps.

Relatively ancient and inactive

Yeah, I needed some simple mathematics to make the physics engine of my "Mech Combat" demo.

You can make a fairly comprehensive physics engine if you feel like it, for other people to use. Or different ones, for different applications - a 2D one that doesn't cover projectile motion but responds to terrain changes, one that can cover projectile motion, etc.

When you say "higher level mathematics" are you talking about like, linear programming, game theory, number theory type stuff, or just anything past calc 3, or do you mean higher level as in higher dimensional, like special unitary 4+ groups and stuff?

Edit: Oops, didn't realize this was a sc2 thread, I haven't made any sc2 maps yet lol.

Anything past calc 3 constitutes as higher mathematics. Basically it is the category for anyone who has a really solid grasp on mathematics, just a grouping for me to go, "kay these guys are really really smart about this stuff."

Doesn't matter, concepts can be applied to SC1 as well, in a limited way =P

Back* from the grave

Heh, I'm ending at calc III my senior year here in college. Currently only in calc I, but it's fairly easy the way our professor explains it. I can help with the maths, but not as much as others :hurr:

From a basic understanding a good map can be created how does knowing mathematics equations and algorithms make starcraft map better?
