In terms of making a flash game, where I want to use starcraft sprites, where can I get unit and building sprites? I don't want to have to screen shot the game and cut them out, or screen shot an editor...cause I would like the full animation and everything, explosions too. I don't know if anyone knows of a tool to extract it all from stardat.

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot.

Basically you get them from the starcraft MPQ file. More info is in the modding section or at modcrafters.com.

I'm pretty sure this is the right board for this thread.

As for your question, I'm pretty sure you can get them out of the .mpq file. If you have a listfile, import it into WinMPQ and open StarDat/BrooDat. Then find all the .grps (or .bmps, I forget which is which with StarCraft) you want and extract them into another folder. Then, voila, you have your stuffs. You'll probably want to convert the single frames into one big .gif or something, but I don't know how Flash works, so I suppose that's your department.

If you don't have a listfile, ShadowFlare has some (and you can use Google).

They will be in GRP format. You can use SFGRPConvert to convert them to bmp.

ya lost me lol...I tried to mod once when I was younger (like...6 years ago) and never even knew how to work stargraft...I think...

I assumed it had to to with the mpq file, but i have no clue how to get them out. This may also be a program game(exe) opposed to flash, not sure which yet.

WinMPQ you say? and...listfile?

Thanks for the help though.

Use WinMPQ to open up the MPQ in the Starcraft folder. Inside will be a big list of files. The ones ending in .grp are graphics files, which you want. Use SFGRPConvert to convert said .grps to .bmps.

The listfile tells you what the files in the MPQ are. For example, Wessel.grp is actually the Science Vessel grp. The listfile will tell you that.

Google for Shadowflare's realm. SFGRPConvert stands for Shadowflare's GRP converter, so the DL is somewhere on her site.

Use GameBasic or one of the tileset palettes.

Not a lot. In fact, scarce. But thats what you get for a RTS game that is hard to rip sprites and was made in 1998.

It's not that hard, especially since there are programs that do it for you. ;o

Also, if you want, I can easily generate these:
