hahaha, oh god, this is hard to explain for some reason.
Day and Night are different. Day can be 24 hours or it can refer to a phase of a day, which is before night. In this case, its before night.
If the world started at night, it would be night 1. It would then cycle to day 1 because day and night are different and there wasn't a day 1 to begin with. Day and night aren't combined and have no relevant similarities in this game.
If your still having trouble, think of X being night and Y being day. They are both increased by 1 simultaneously.
