I don't really like those people either, how do you make music when you've never actually played music with your voice or fingers? I still don't know whether to make this a competition or a talent thread. :\
if more people had access to recording equipment I would so make human performance a requirement.
None.
So wait, there isn't any sort of specific goal? It's just turn in a composition and see which is better despite it probably turning into apples and oranges?
None.

It seems so.

It's not like there aren't people who know music and then compose stuff on the computer first.
None.

It's not that, it's people who'll find a random program, push random notes in, probably add some sort of generated background and say they've made something. Maybe it is music, but is it what they intended to write? or an outcome from pushing random notes?
None.
How about the intricacy of the synthesized music should be a higher than that played? Such as more (and varied) voices and such that sound well together? It's a lot easier to achieve a higher complexity with a synthesizer than by one's self with instruments. I think it'd be harder that way to have someone just push random buttons. ;o
Just be sure to factor it in while judging...

If that's the case, then what's the point? All we have is then the "Your Music" thread with a due date along with critique and comparisons of pieces that aren't even similar.
None.

If you want to participate, good. If you're not going to then leave the topic and stop putting down others motivation?

Alright I agree one one thing, that many of these compositions won't be similar, and too keep from going anywhere random. How about I post some picture up or lyrics, or a silent movie? Then people can actually create pitch and rhythm based off that. Seem better? this way judging can be based off how the created music is relatively close to the main theme of the contest, whatever that may be.
edit: also, the theme will be separated into 2 contrasting ideas. entries can either enter with one of the selected ideas that may suit them better. example ( picture of a swan in a lake or picture of a storm )
None.

Sorry that me wanting more definition in the competition in hopes of making it better upsets you.

Giving a specified theme would help seeing as it would at the very least unify the submitted pieces in at least one aspect.
None.
Alright so I'll make it a set music to picture contest.
None.

The best musicians do not plan out every detail on how their song is going to sound. They work on it over a period of time with their band mates and collaboratively create something that independently, they could not have created. Sometimes it takes the playing of random notes to find the part that will fit the song perfectly.
None.
can I just play a guitar and make the lyrics about rain?
None.

Wrong. The best musicians DO plan out every single detail.

Upset? Nah, I just find it weird how someone that would call itself a composer, to participate on a compositing contest at least, must have a defined or set theme for him to work on. I'm sorry you do.
I'm out.
fuck you all

I don't
need the theme, it would simply be nice to have one for reasons previously stated. I would say sorry for misleading you, but a troll such as yourself doesn't deserve any more attention.
None.
The fact that you guys are debating whether the 'best' musicians do or do not plan out every single detail is ridiculous. Everyone works differently. And 'best' is a terribly subjective word in this case.
And @everyone: try to stay a bit more on topic before this topic derails completely.
None.
I will be submitting techno ^.^
And yeah, I don't hit random notes, I plan everything out o.o
None.
Sleeping wolves wake hungry.
I might enter this.
I'll probably get flamed for not being a "real musician," even though I can play guitar and bass.
I might want to submit more than one... though there seems to be a rule against that.
None.
