Good luck to all participants and I hope we get some more finished maps in. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -{ Diplomacy: Empires | Blog | Melee QC & Resources }- "You must be careful because we are dealing with people here, not machines or code. If you make a mistake or want to do something differently when you're coding, you change it, run it again and the computer does not know the difference. The same ease of reversibility does not apply to the user, or human affairs in general. While we all empathize with a desire for second chances sometimes, the fact that something can be undone does not make it a good idea - there will be consequences." -Moose |

I thought of a map which is an "RPG" in that you play a role, but it lacks traditional RPG elements such as spells, leveling, etc. In fact, your character never even fights directly. Would this still count?
(It's probably a moot point, though: I strongly doubt that I can get both this and BASW done in time.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Kaias, am I authorized to offer my service to polish the terrain of any participant that wants my help?
I'd ask you to make a lil' notification in your first post so people can contact me via PM asking me to look at their terrain. I do not promise anything, but I'll do my best to make these maps sexier =) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

New version of my map has been released =) http://www.staredit.net/files/1821/
I see no more than one or two more versions tbh. I also think this one is the best (other than the fact the ending might be a little messed, not sure) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I had a few ideas about judging...
1. There are ~4 primary judges selected by ... someone Each of these judges then select 3 people who they believe to be better mappers in at least 1 aspect, who in turn each select 2 people who are better, and who also in turn select 1 person to be a judge. This allows for each person to pick someone who is "better" then them, so that there are no... "below-average" judges The numbers are simply placeholders and would likely be changed 2. There are 3-4 judges each who are the BEST of SEN in a certain area: IE: Best aesthetist (terrain/dialogue/general atmosphere), Best technical mapper (in terms of triggers), Best storyteller/writer, etc. (Perhaps we should vote on a council of people who get to choose who gets to judge our maps as well =PP) A problem with judges is the fact that there is no standard with which maps should be judged by, and no scale or system. This can lead to judges not liking maps because "they are too hard" or other subjective details, making a potentially 5 star map voted less then that. Also perhaps (for the first problem i listed) is to perhaps have kaias or someone make a scale like "Rpgs... * Crash Rpg-esque.... ** Some originality or redeeming concepts..... *** Was a good bit of fun..... etc" The only other problem i see with any judging system is the fact that there is no authority that presides over us that can choose a judge without bias. Perhaps judges should take notes as they play the games, specifically what frustrated them and what made them feel emotions (happy/sad depends on map). Myst games (the ones i've played) are not text based, they are adventure games This post was edited 1 time, last edit by TiKels: Jan 6 2010, 11:14 pm. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
