So I'm using this ooooooold Acer Travel Mate 220 (I think that's the correct model title...) as my main and only computer here in the Cardiff. Everything was going good until one day, all the volume dropped to incredibly low levels. What I mean by that is that the speaker & headphone (all output is screwed, but input works fine) volume became soooo low that I have to use headphones with all volume settings to the max (compared to the minimal volume settings I used before with headphones). Nothing is physically damaged or broken, it's probably some software/setup problem because a day before this started I got a big error which resulted in the evil blue screen that says 'windows has to shut down to avoid any damage to your system'.

I checked the volume settings - everything is as it used to be and nothing is muted. I put all sliders and other setting I could find to their maximums to make sure I didn't skip anything, but it did not help.

WTF? Any suggestions?

Something like that happened when I installed Total Recorder. Did you install anything recently that you use to directly rip sound?

The only thing I installed is uTorrent, which is in no way related to sound.

Check Device Manager (Right Click My Computer, Properties, Hardware tab) and see if the device is on/attached.

Yes, I have video, sound & game controller.

You could try reinstalling drivers. ;o
Make sure everything is showing in the Volume Control.
Is there any advanced options or something in the CP that allow you to play with settings?
Make sure the correct audio device is selected in the sound CP thingy.
Device Manager expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" thingy to see if anything has a warning icon.

If I remove drivers, will I be able to get new ones off the internet, considering that my windows is pirated and my laptop is probably like... 7 years old?

Nothing has any warning icons and all the options (from the simplest to the most advanced I could find) have all categories set to the maximum.

Lul. I contacted my dad and he told me that there is a small scroller on the side of the laptop that is the 'master master' volume. I never knew it existed. >_<
