Map Protection thread? exemplifies the sort of misunderstandings that can take place when a moderator bears no markings of any sort to distinguish them as a moderator. Without it, moderators appear as any other poster, and what poster is going to respond to another poster telling them what to do? The same message can read very differently when perceived from someone in a position of authority versus equal footing. Moderators need to be known so their actions, messages, and warnings carry weight.

Admins already have the globe icon. Give moderators something similar, so none of the mineral-based customizations are infringed.

I am in complete agreement with this and have never supported the staff appearing the same as normal posters.

Instead of the little Scmdraft Globe, have it different colors for the different levels? Turning there name colors will insight others to copy the color with the Name Color item in the store. If you had there name 2 colors, or maybe it changes, or something that sticks out on both skins...

By the way Hercanic, what is up with you and posting topics about the end result of my topic to which was deleted -> locked, which was eventually going to happen? I think there is something like 3 topics made by you including my topic as evidence against a moderator... Its done and over with. It has all been worked out. Drop it. :D

Farty has two clan tags; if he got a Name Color, he'd have three different colors...

I would support the return of good old v4 color identification, but colored names are now an item. Hmmm.

You could make them double colors?

Merrell

or bold?

Merrell

or have an image, like the administrator globe, near the names of the global moderators?

Merrell

or

Read: "Admins already have the globe icon. Give moderators something similar, so none of the mineral-based customizations are infringed."

Color is one such customization. Icons are best. Don't use the globe icon, use something different.

In the thread I link to, I did not know Esponoe was a moderator at the time. That affected how I interpreted his first message--that is, as nothing more than a post by a normal user. Had he written "I deleted it" instead of "It was deleted", that would have answered several questions simultaneously. Such mindful phrasing would be entirely unnecessary, however, had there been a mark distinguishing him as a moderator. When he reposted what he wrote 25 times, I wondered if he was a moderator, and even scoured his profile, the forum for a moderator listing, anything, but found nothing. The lack of a portrait, his number of posts, none seemed to indicate he was a moderator. I even looked up a few of his posts, with one coming up about him getting drunk. I concluded he was most likely a normal user, but in my reply I even stated, "As far as I know, you are not a moderator", reflecting my thought-process in understanding the situation.

As for "3 topics", there is my topic asking what happened to the Map Protection thread. That is the only post that deals with your original thread, the one that is "over and done with". This topic only references my topic as an example of what can happen when it is not clear who your moderators are. This thread has nothing to do with Esponoe, and is in no way against him.

The only other reference to my own topic (not yours) is in the Esponoe thread, which specifically deals with Esponoe's capability as a moderator. That thread was not started by me, and had quite a few people before me lodging their complaints. All I have done there is submit what transpired in my thread as an example of how he created, and handled, a conflict. That, my friend, is the most important test of a moderator.

I am not seeking to attack him, nor bear him any ill-will, but I will speak out if I see a significant problem with the administration. I have only done this in one thread, where it was appropriate, not three.

I'm all for moderator markings, but you could easily have looked at the staff list.

Edit: Although Esponeo's not actually listed. Does that mean that he's no longer staff or that the list is wrong?

Edit 2: okay just go with what Clokr_ said.

Most staff lists are outdated. You could look at the user list, moderator group, but still it'd easier if they had some distinction in their nicknames.

We live in a society.

It is, unfortunately, looking very easy to revoke name colors to implement this. :P

Do we get a refund? :<_<:  Why not just have an icon like Administrators have? It could be different. When you click on the icons, either from an Administrator, or a Global Moderator, you go to the page with all of the others in there group? I LIKE MEH NAME COLORZ! :D

Relatively ancient and inactive

Just make an icon next to it if the person is a moderator in the forum you're looking at.

I disagree, people with power need to recognized. Like most sites where they have spots showing there "rank" or position by there titles. You can't respect something properly if you don't know it exists.
