For week #6, I'm pretty sure at this point that we'll never get the reviews of UnholyUrine and Eteft. You can always use mine to determine the results of the contests.
Edit: Oh, and while I'm at it, you could use this code for rankings if you want. I meant to use it for week 6 but forgot about it. It's really up to you; I personally find it more appealing. So I even change unit portraits and replace in-game music? It's not like I'm going to add new units/attacks. -_-
I don't understand why nobody ever allows mods. It's a part of Starcraft, isn't it? Why don't we allow it? Because it allows an unfair advantage? How so? Because not everyone knows how to do it? So what? I don't know how to blend terrain well and make cool effects via trigger, so why can we do that? Modding's just another part of the game and it should definitely be allowed in these contests. I mean, shit, it's more over the top then making a ruins tile blend into high dirt and creating fifty explosions for some random spell. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() KIND FUCKIN' REGARDS,

Dem0n makes a valid point to be honest. I don't see why we shouldn't be allowed to use mods. It really shows the true creativity of the author of a project because it allows said author a much less restricted approach to designing his world.
IMO it really couldn't hurt. ALSO blending is NOT part of the regular game as it requires an enhanced editor to produce. When you look at modding, all that really is is an enhanced editor, no? Plus, a mod doesn't actually require anything additional as it's just replacing the stock StarCraft.exe, much like the map replaces any stock .scm or .scx. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

What if someone enters who doesn't know how to make a mod and would have to only rely on producing a normal map. Would that theoretically give the mod-maker an unfair advantage? I'm just curious, myself.

Pr0nogo does not make a valid point to be honest. I clearly see why we shouldn't be allowed to use mods. It really shows the lack of creativity of the author of a project because said author cannot manage to design his world with the already vast tools at his disposal. Not to mention, modding the game makes it no longer the same game and really destroys the spirit of a mapmaking contest.
IMO it really would hurt, especially considering the already low levels of participation. ALSO blending IS part of the regular game as it can be played without altering the client. When you look at modding, it's really not even the same game anymore, no? Plus, a mod requires additional things outside of the game to play it, changing the code of the client to run properly. It also requires knowledge that falls far outside the realm of what is commonly considered mapmaking. This is a mapmaking contest. The rules are there for a reason, and if you have an issue with them, you're always welcome to host a modding contest in your own thread. In the meantime, you can feel free to submit a normal entry to this one. tl;dr: No one is saying you can't make modded maps. They're saying you can't submit them to this contest. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
