I'm willing to bet that your map is a spamfest, 64x64 mass map.
ESCAPE HELL RPG
Read the whole topic before posting to avoid making ridiculous assumptions.

For the record, I didn't come on here complaining about how I hate making maps and how Shocko tricked me into making one. I just let out a little frustration about the totally un-cool way Shocko went about this.

And as far as ranting and agressive posts go, I think poison_us takes the cake. Back off. You're way too late for the argument, and it was just dying down. Stop telling me to "stop whining". I quote myself...

I'm done complaining, because it isn't helping anything. Like I said, I just had to express my opinion and let off a little steam.

So stop dragging me into the fight again with your angering posts. It's pretty hard to resist a rebuttal..

The contest mapmaking time is over. I will deduct points according to the length of time submitted late, if there are late submissions. I'll begin playing/judging as soon as I can, probably tomorrow or wednesday.

I spent over 36 hours on only two abilities for my map, and I still don't consider it 'wasted time'- that's a terrible way to think. Now without the key, I'm just planning to work on TS first, then finish my 'fire' map later.

But the fire map is so... godly. You should use the fire spells in TS. It would make the most epic hero EVER! :awesome:

Oh! I was so interested in the topic that I forgot to work on my map! Hopefully when it comes out it's not into the negatives... It was the more advance version of a map I made back in 2008 lost in a computer crash. It was so great... It worked almost perfectly. I had set up so much locations (Since I may or may not have thought of setting up a mobile grid). There was a whole set of triggers for each of them and not even a single hyper trigger in sight...

I'm confused, why is everyone figthing about him taking back the prize. Shocko never promised a new key, just the ability to use his SC2 beta account.

Quote from Shocko
The plan is that whoever wins may use my battle.net 2.0 account to access SC2 beta. They may use this account until beta closes. All I ask is that A) You don't steal my account. B) You don't record my personal information. C) You don't change the password. D) I get the account back upon Beta closing.

You all need to get over the fact that you wont win a beta key and were never promised one from the beginning. There's waaaaaay too much backlash in this thread over miscommunication.

Haha. Same difference?
Technicalities aside they're the same thing.
  • Beta key = Playing Starcraft 2
  • B.Net Account with attached beta key = Playing Starcraft 2

I think what we were interested in is the end result. Playing Starcraft 2.

If you want to talk about the "illegality" of it, they're quite different. Blizzard frowns upon sharing accounts but they're fine with giving away an unused beta key.

And my point was basically that no one will be getting either, so there's no point in fighting about it.

Seems to me people are pissed of because they were promised something, put work in to acquiring what was promised, and then Shock broke said promise.

Seems fairly straight foward to me. Broken promise = pissed off people.

I am working on Hell's Awakening RPG, stay tuned for further details.

Winner: "Triune RPG" by TiMMaYj

Note: I'm grading these rpg's based on what I think could be accomplished during the time period they had. Obviously nothing like Astrogears could be done in a week, so if the scores seem lenient compared to what you think, this is why.

4th Place:
Alien RPG by fake Shocko/Randy.G
Gameplay: 1/10
The map is very short and stupid. There is no gameplay, but it was mildly amusing, so I gave it 1.
Originality: 1/10
"OMG U SUCK" maps have been done before, and this wasn't particularly original in any way.
Professionalism: 1/10
No color, no map control, weird capitalization everywhere.
Theme: 1/5
Has "Fire" in the map name when you go to play it. "Fire Aliens" rpg.
Completion: 2/5
Map served its purpose as an "OMG U SUCK" map, and it's finished so it gets more than 1 point for this.
Doesn't have a "defeat" or "victory" trigger, just leaves you hanging. No way to know the map's over, not to mention no terrain, probably 4 or 5 triggers, ect.

Total: 7/40

3rd Place:
Pokemon Quest for Moltres - Mp)Pieh
Gameplay: 7/10
Run around killing pokemon, visit nurse joy, upgrade, use some items and get to moltres. Very nostalgic of the old gameboy games. Enjoyable at first, but gets repetitive fast. You can pretty much win with just charizard and a clefairy or two.
Originality: 4/10
Been done before, sorry. Nothing really jumped out at me as new, cool, or unique. Solid overall concept, just nothing with a unique feel or twist in the map.
Professionalism: 6/10
Points for use of color to highlight game elements and stuff, but overall it's pretty bland. Grammar/spelling was fine. What really would have impressed me, would have been
if you'd used the actual caves from the Game Boy game and the item locations (it's sad that I remember it that well isn't it?), and modeled the town after that town.
Theme: 4/5
Good use of "fire bird" but I knocked off a point because there isn't a whole lot of fire during gameplay (unless you choose charmander who happens to be a firebat).
Completion: 5/5
Map's finished, has a victory trigger, 'nuff said.

Total: 26/40

2nd Place:
Escape Hell by Leeroy_Jenkins
Gameplay: 5/10
It's moderately fun. There isn't actually a whole lot to do besides right click on the enemies and walk around a bit, but the ambiance of being in hell made it worth while.
Originality: 8/10
Could be expanded upon to make a really good map that hasn't been done before (story-wise, at least). Sure it falls into the "RPG" genre, but the whole "escape hell" thing could add an element that most rpg's don't have, especially if it became time-intensive.
Professionalism: 8/10
Good use of color, easy to read. No major grammar errors. Could have added a touch more time and care to the text timing/spacing/sound/ect, but overall pretty good. Good use of effects, the bunkers for fire, the invisible protoss air units for the crystal, some doodads to liven things up, ect.
Theme: 5/5
Hell. Good use of scenic fire.
Completion: 5/5
Map is finished, contains appropriate warning for hotkey, has victory trigger.

Total: 31/40

1st Place:
Triune RPG - TiMMAYj
Gameplay - 7/10
Enjoyable. Has some items, little battle system, some spells to use. Interface is kinda clunky, but no big deal. RPG style run around do quests, basically collect some items and beat the bosses. Dragon boss was most fun.
Originality - 8/10
Semi-unique story, but nothing to "wow" Also could be expanded upon to make a good map.
Professionalism: 8/10
Good use of color to highlight game elements, but the terrain was so whacked. Some parts are intentional I know, and some were cool terrain-wise, but had to dock for that. Good use of sounds too.
Theme: 4/5
"World Flame" is pretty good, but not much fire during gameplay.
Completion: 5/5
Map's finished, has an ending, good length of gameplay.

Total: 32/40

Congratluations to our top 3 contestants, and go suck eggs to Randy.G for making that abomination of a map.
