Winner: "Triune RPG" by TiMMaYjNote: I'm grading these rpg's based on what I think could be accomplished during the time period they had. Obviously nothing like Astrogears could be done in a week, so if the scores seem lenient compared to what you think, this is why.
4th Place:
Alien RPG by fake Shocko/Randy.GGameplay: 1/10
The map is very short and stupid. There is no gameplay, but it was mildly amusing, so I gave it 1.
Originality: 1/10
"OMG U SUCK" maps have been done before, and this wasn't particularly original in any way.
Professionalism: 1/10
No color, no map control, weird capitalization everywhere.
Theme: 1/5
Has "Fire" in the map name when you go to play it. "Fire Aliens" rpg.
Completion: 2/5
Map served its purpose as an "OMG U SUCK" map, and it's finished so it gets more than 1 point for this.
Doesn't have a "defeat" or "victory" trigger, just leaves you hanging. No way to know the map's over, not to mention no terrain, probably 4 or 5 triggers, ect.
Total: 7/40
3rd Place:
Pokemon Quest for Moltres - Mp)PiehGameplay: 7/10
Run around killing pokemon, visit nurse joy, upgrade, use some items and get to moltres. Very nostalgic of the old gameboy games. Enjoyable at first, but gets repetitive fast. You can pretty much win with just charizard and a clefairy or two.
Originality: 4/10
Been done before, sorry. Nothing really jumped out at me as new, cool, or unique. Solid overall concept, just nothing with a unique feel or twist in the map.
Professionalism: 6/10
Points for use of color to highlight game elements and stuff, but overall it's pretty bland. Grammar/spelling was fine. What really would have impressed me, would have been
if you'd used the actual caves from the Game Boy game and the item locations (it's sad that I remember it that well isn't it?), and modeled the town after that town.
Theme: 4/5
Good use of "fire bird" but I knocked off a point because there isn't a whole lot of fire during gameplay (unless you choose charmander who happens to be a firebat).
Completion: 5/5
Map's finished, has a victory trigger, 'nuff said.
Total: 26/40
2nd Place:
Escape Hell by Leeroy_JenkinsGameplay: 5/10
It's moderately fun. There isn't actually a whole lot to do besides right click on the enemies and walk around a bit, but the ambiance of being in hell made it worth while.
Originality: 8/10
Could be expanded upon to make a really good map that hasn't been done before (story-wise, at least). Sure it falls into the "RPG" genre, but the whole "escape hell" thing could add an element that most rpg's don't have, especially if it became time-intensive.
Professionalism: 8/10
Good use of color, easy to read. No major grammar errors. Could have added a touch more time and care to the text timing/spacing/sound/ect, but overall pretty good. Good use of effects, the bunkers for fire, the invisible protoss air units for the crystal, some doodads to liven things up, ect.
Theme: 5/5
Hell. Good use of scenic fire.
Completion: 5/5
Map is finished, contains appropriate warning for hotkey, has victory trigger.
Total: 31/40
1st Place:
Triune RPG - TiMMAYjGameplay - 7/10
Enjoyable. Has some items, little battle system, some spells to use. Interface is kinda clunky, but no big deal. RPG style run around do quests, basically collect some items and beat the bosses. Dragon boss was most fun.
Originality - 8/10
Semi-unique story, but nothing to "wow" Also could be expanded upon to make a good map.
Professionalism: 8/10
Good use of color to highlight game elements, but the terrain was so whacked. Some parts are intentional I know, and some were cool terrain-wise, but had to dock for that. Good use of sounds too.
Theme: 4/5
"World Flame" is pretty good, but not much fire during gameplay.
Completion: 5/5
Map's finished, has an ending, good length of gameplay.
Total: 32/40
Congratluations to our top 3 contestants, and go suck eggs to Randy.G for making that abomination of a map.
None.
