The max would be three. You can have as many ranks in one skill as you have levels.

Your best bet is to read the wiki linked in the OP or do a quick Google search for a beginners guide to Pathfinder or D&D 3.5. Once you do that, my posts on the prior page regarding ability scores, feats, etc. will probably help. It is sort of tough to teach someone how to play without being there in person otherwise.

EDIT:
Oh wait, we're starting at level 3? I gotta redo my character stuffs then.

If you're a paladin, you need charisma. If you're a ranger, you need some wis. Those stats are a lot better suited for a barbarian.

Thanks for clearing a lottt of stuff up for me guys, especially Devlin.

Quote from FatalException
Clerics actually need wis and cha a lot more than they need int. Cleric spells are wis based, and their channel energy ability is cha based. Clerics basically only use int for skills. You've put a lot of points into con that you won't really need, and by my math you still have 4 points left over. You probably don't want to be an elf if you want to be a cleric.

Oh okay.. so.. redone I guess

Name: Vindeca
Class: Cleric
Race: Human (?)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Attire: Err later I guess
Attributes: STR7, DEX13, CON8, INT13, WIS17, CHA15
Physical Attributes: 5'9", 140 lbs, Black Eyes, Long Matted Black Hair to shoulder

I used http://www.trovetokens.com/pathfinder.html site to make my guy so... yeah.... hopefully I did it better now :)
I'd drop a point from dex and a point from int and bring that con back to 10 so you don't lose hitpoints for mostly nothing, but otherwise those numbers are ok. You might want to switch the wis and the cha, but probably not.

Mmkay thanks :)

That seems odd. Any particular reason we would do that, aside from "I don't like the part where my character isn't such a badass"? :P

I don't know the game well enough to know if there would be other reasons for something like that.

I take it we follow whatever leveling rules are in place when determining our characters stats? What is their starting experience?

Neither, he's a Cleric. I think you're looking at the part of the quote that refers to shadow.

That's actually exactly the reason. Yes, you follow the leveling rules, but there are no stat bonuses until level 4 (however, take note that you do start with an extra feat, not just extra HP and skill points). Starting experience depends on the leveling scheme Sac chooses.

Positively is a cleric. You're thinking of The_UrChai. I talked with him on Steam and we got his stats straightened out; he's going to be a paladin (/holy warrior when Sac gets back to me with that class info).

Wait, so from lv1-3 we get nothing but level-up HP bonuses, 2 level ups, and appropriate class-based specials?

That's typically how it works, yeah. You make it sound like hitpoints, skill points, class features, and feats aren't a big deal. :P

Sorry. Would my skills be chosen from....

The cleric’s class skills are Appraise (Int), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Heal (Wis), Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Knowledge (history) (Int), Knowledge (nobility) (Int), Knowledge (planes) (Int), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Linguistics (Int), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int)?

Also, for Feats can I choose any from the list right?

You can put points into any skill, but they wont modify the skill as much if they aren't class skills. So generally you'd want to stick with those.

You can choose any Feat on the list, but try to focus more on the ones that benefit Clerics.

Okay thanks, sorry but one more question, what's the limit of how many skills and feats I can choose?

Skills depend on your Int and level (2 + Int modifier). Feats depend on your level (you get 1 at level 1 and another at level 3).

So based on your last stats posted, at level 3 you should have 9 skill points and 2 Feats. If your favored class is a Cleric, you can also add either an extra skill point or hit point per level as well.

I don't know the game well enough to know if there would be other reasons for something like that.

I take it we follow whatever leveling rules are in place when determining our characters stats? What is their starting experience?

A few reasons:

1) Casters are absolute shit to play at level 1 or 2. They're pitifully weak and not fun. (This can be true for a lot of classes, like all of them.)

2) All you would be doing at first level is running around and getting your ass kicked by adorable woodland creatures for awhile. My first character died in his first battle because a grizzly bear attacked me. That's right, just your run of the mill grizzly bear raped my fucking face off. I was a fighting class too.

3) The campaign isn't going to cater to your stuff. Piss off some evil wizard twenty levels higher? Don't expect me to keep him in line. You don't get plot armor just because you're PCs, that's not how I roll. I have a lasseiz faire approach to DMing, I really don't like rail roading; but that means I'm not going to be handing stuff to you on a silver platter. It helps to be a few levels higher than first so you're not going to be raped by some common bandits.

I'll elaborate on my style. I am meticulous when it comes to this kind of work. I like to have every detail planned out in advance, even if that detail is left to improvisation, I want to know I'm leaving it up to improvisation, like wandering into some guy's hut. What does it look like? What's in there? How is it positioned? I can come up with this stuff on the spot. But there's a lot of content I love to add to the world, which is why it is going to take a few weeks for me to develop. There's a lot for you to explore and just have fun with, and it's constantly growing and changing, with or without you. It's like TES, only far more open and detailed; I'm sure you could spend more than a few sessions on some random cave you've found, or an old castle or something.

But there will be a main plot, I assure you.

---

It will take some time before we start, but it will be more rewarding because of it. Also, expect a lot of class opportunities to open up. I'm a diehard fan of homebrew, and you can be sure I'll be posting up homebrew classes that I think would be fun, unique, and just plain badass.
