Basically i recently found out that you have to use your phone to create a youtube or gamil account. Confused? let me explain this; to prevent spammers google has made a requirement to authenticate an account creation with a text or a call. I'm not sure if many of you know this but this bullcrap has to be said. I mean come on isn't reading that impossible to read word enough. I do however understand where they're coming from as most popular places on the internet has an overwhelming amount of spam but couldn't they have done something else. A great analogy is anti thieving measures, something the makes it more difficult for the thief to steal but doesn't annoy normal shoppers, e.g. a plastic casing that makes a loud sound when you open it.

I mean come on they couldn't have come up with something better...

Didn't Google purchase reCAPTCHA? Why aren't they using that for their Google Account signups?

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

I created a new YouTube a few months ago and didn't have to validate it with a text or call. Odd.

If you're not using Sneakemail then you fail. And no, you don't need a phone to use Google. But then again I knew this before I clicked your topic title, Tempz.

My only guess is that they require this for certain countries that have lots of spammers etc. Or it could be an ISP check, for similar reasons.

What country are you in?

Why are we attaching images rather than linking? There are tons of free sites. If you want me to take shit seriously, take the time to put it on an image hosting site.

I don't know much about Google's CAPTCHA or reCAPTCHA, but I do remember an article about a year ago saying that Google's CAPTCHA had been cracked. They've probably changed it up since then, but I don't know. I don't follow this stuff like I used to.

Although Google probably took this a step too far, it generally is a good idea to have a phone verification for important stuff. I loved my bank's old system when every payment you make from your online banking has to be confirmed by you on the phone. Now they've changed it to a confirmation by re-typing the password you used to log in which is stupid because it stops only someone who jumped to my computer while I went to check the oven; I want a system that would stop someone who hacked into my computer/whatever and knows all my passwords.

As long as I can remember my bank uses a TAN list of numbers that are sent to you by mail (not email) and a specified one of those has to be entered on every transaction. It's a pretty safe and simple system. But apparently not safe enough because they are changing it to either card reader or text message verification. Which is gay because both are more expensive. :disgust:

Long story short having phone verification for something as simple as email is stupid. Not everyone even has a mobile phone or money to make a land line call for an email. Or is google gonna call you? In that case "trololol lets all make email accounts and enter phone numbers of your top 10 most hated persons." However it could be a smart idea to offer optional phone verification in case someone wants the added security.

I've even tried registering a new gmail yesterday, with Zimbabwe as my country, and yet Google still requires verification by text message/voice call :massimo:

Ive had it once, and every time I log into my school email (Which is now provided by gmail :hurr: ) or youtube, it asks me to 'verify' my account by calling in. It still lets me use it, but it wants me to verify.
