I've got a small idea: What if I change the mineral gaining by posts to somethn exponantial? Like
50 chars -> 1M
100 chars -> 2M
150 chars -> 4M
200 chars -> 8M
400 chars -> 16M
...

Why? because spam is more like mass of tiny posts, but bigger posts are the only ones that gives you a good amount of minerals then. And while a spamer is writing the next huge post a moderator already might have moderated (if necesarry) the old big post. So, what you think?

EDIT: I would remove quotes out of the post temporary so I can count the amount of letters the poster really has written. And I could start every post with -10 minerals.

I think I can't wait to see how many the Terrain Hall of Fame gets me >:) But at the same time, this is most likely just going to make people get really wordy with their posts, not sure if it's such a great idea. The old method worked just fine, moderators just have to crack down on useless posts in the forums that give minerals.

What I posted in the staff forum:
Quote
I don't like minerals and items such as name colors, etc.

But if you really want to have those items/perks, I think we should give them to members according to their rank. It bypasses all the nonsense of the "spamming for minerals - but how about basing it on karma - but they'll rate each others posts to gain karma" thing. Moose gives ranks to who ever he deems fit and there is no more messing about. We can of course finetune the rank system to have more/less ranks to fit the perks we want to give according to those ranks.

EDIT:
I also hate items that give you the right to put an advert of your map in the DLDB. Items should be only for feeling special and feeling a bit more comfortable (like a bigger avatar/signature/PM space), not for introducing bias to anything mapping/modding-related.

Minerals sure can get abused. Like I did it back in v4 with my 16 accounts. I gathered up like 10k of minerals. But I still think they were a good add to the forum.

Hello

There wouldn't be a DLDB-Advertiser as the spotlight system got improved anyways.
++ Before implementing them again (if the mayority and moose wants it) I'll add many good scripts for moderators to help moderating against abusing. Even "suspended form earning minerals in forum x" would be there, as well as (maybe) a sort of minerals-logs for every profile (only visible by moderators), which shows where when who and why someone gotten minerals. Don't even try to abuse it then, it won't work anyways :P

Hopefully minerals are implemented before the rpg contest winner is decided.
With the idea of x posts = 1 mineral abuse:
I'd create a lot of maps, create a thread for all in both the map development with all the info. on it, and one in the showcase with the same info once it's done.
I'd gain a lot of minerals that way.

To prevent a lot of spamming, members will only earn 10 minerals max per day. (Or the average amount of minerals earned through a day.)

Minerals for posting/submitting maps.
Karma for positive/negetive posts/threads.
Ranks for popularity/activity.

Ideas for store items:

Add one mineral to your maximum mineral earnings per day.
Buy the ability to add pictures to the back of your posts or behind the avatar/contact/online/title.

Also make multi-currency for store items. To buy a name color or something make it cost a certain amount of minerals AND reputation/gas. The other currency (reputation/gas) is never obtained through posts but through map submission or handed out during special events like Christmas or tourneys or w/e.

No matter how minerals you have you are always going to lack the ability to buy anything, discouraging people to post for them since their is no guarantee their minerals will be usable unless they actually do something that is gas/reputation worthy.

i hate how it feels like this whole mineral isn't like taken seriously. It is something that is giving map makers and such motivation to keep on doing what they do for a game that's a decade old. I understand shutting down minerals but then not doing anything to replace the "motivator" is pretty lame. What we have right now is getting your name on the next temple siege map. I don't even like temple siege anymore but everyone loves SEN amirite? ;D

Which tbh should've been done combined with not allowing that person to trade minerals (to prevent multi abuse). But at the time nobody was coding so doing something like this must have seemed outlandish and impractical.

Do not give minerals for quotes, give 2 per map posted. If one edits a post and takes out material, then they lose minerals so that the exponential system cannot be abused by typing a shit ton then removing it via edit button.

Hello

Guys, don't worry. The staff and I got all that stuff in mind and we will find ways to avoid all that ;) (if it gets re implemented)

I think it's oretty clear we're going to implement it. Just how.

Feb 6 2010, 4:37 pm Moose Post #51

We live in a society.

Personally, I would not implement them, but I understand that many of you would like the mineral system to return. If the system is well-designed and effective, then I will not hold it back. My disagreement with IP's implementation was one reason that I removed them. Futhermore, the bugs and exploits and other general breakage of the system up to that point made it much easier to remove than fix. (Also note that I will be pissed off when (not if.) I have to moderate things related to minerals... because I really do think it will create more work for moderation.)
Edit: I forgot to mention that the system is somewhat redundant in itself because of the Normal/Regular/Veteran/Elite system.

Let's shift the discussion to proper implementation before anything is coded. When I have more time to write, I will tell you what I think should and shouldn't happen in the new system.

Let me show you how to hump without making love.

Activity, you get more minerals the more you are active. I think this should be scaled the same way that the current activity is, because I see people signing on very often and still are not very high in Activity. Like myself :stfu:

Karma, at the end of the day, for every point of karma you got on you're posts that day, you get +1 mineral. This will make more people tend to use the karma system. In some sort of way, make bad karma affect this. Possibly decrease somehow. Then, of course, you can monitor someone. If they have +50 karma on a post for saying, "Oh, kthxbai," somethings up obviously.

Post Length, like devo said. 50/1, 100/2, 150/4, 200/8, 400/16, etc.

Then, the rest of the system, will be players having fun like we always did. Holding contests, doing stupid things like, "I bet 5 minerals you cant prove me wrong." I miss those days.

Whoa now, I have around 8 posts a day, and they're typically not spam, we have plenty of moderators, probably a good 5% of the active population or more is moderators, so I think we can handle it if someone gets a bit too post-happy. Try to avoid these blanket statement type rules, just because one person abused it.

Feb 8 2010, 6:14 am payne Post #55

:payne:

I mostly want minerals back to be able to reward the winners of contest (and give motivation to participate to them) and also to be able to play games (I loved them! :wub:).
Anyways, I'm glad to hear it'll probably get implement :D
Now, petition for 'Gas' and 'Golden Minerals' will start to flow in! >:O
(Worthless request: 1 gas = 100 minerals, 1 golden mineral = 1000 minerals.)

For simplicity's sake, I propose reinstating the v4 mineral system. As far as I know, it worked pretty damn well.

It was something like
<50 characters or in a no-mineral forum (Null, Welcome) : 0
50-100 : 2
100-200 : 4
200-400 : 8

and so on...

Also, I agree with payne. Even horribly fucked up minerals like everyone seems to try to implement would be better than none for use as prizes and currency.

That's what I said in the staff forum (or was it here?) Well, nevermind, for now IP doesn't want me to implement them, so well I guess they are lost forever or IP may change his mind. I do not want you to bother IP for that.

So, if I pay for SEN, I get to be the boss? I would pay monthly if it meant I could have minerals back and force Devourer to fix up the clans section.
