I can't save properly

Hello.

First of all, I'm currently running SCMDraft2 Beta 0.8.0, I am running on Vista 32-bit, and I am not using the CD, I have downloaded StarCraft off of the Battle.net website.

I am trying to save a test map, but whenever I try launching it on StarCraft, it will not appear in the list of maps. If I attempt to open the map via clicking on it in a folder browser, it will ask me to identify a program that could use it, which has never happened to me before. The only time I can open the map is if I open up a map editor first and find the map through the open file dialog.

I created the map using SCMDraft, and I have tried saving it through SCMDraft under various names, and I have opened it using StarEdit, and tried saving it through StarEdit under various names as well.

I have already reinstalled SCMDraft, and both times the zip file must be found under "Compatability Files". Extracting the files from the zip will simply scatter the files within whatever folder the zip is in, so I must browse and find the StarCraft folder, and the extractor will not create a folder for the files, the new folder must be created manually.

Any suggestions and help is appreciated. Please save "reinstall StarCraft" for a last resort solution, downloading StarCraft online takes quite some time and I can't find my Original StarCraft CD.

Have you tried deleting the backup database for SCMDraft?

Try deleting some maps from your maps folder (or moving them).

As far as I can tell, there is no backup database. If you could tell me the filename for it, I could run a search.

Also, I deleted as many maps as I needed to; that didn't help.

A common save error many people experience (though the error is unlike yours) is having too large of a backup file. Open the SCMDraft 2 folder and view the size of the backupDB.scmdDB file. If it is well over 1gb (usually causes problems around 2-3gb) delete the file.

No file under that name was found.
I even tried creating an entirely different map under regular StarEdit, and that didn't work either.

I'm thinking this may be a problem with Vista or the fact that I downloaded StarCraft off the website?

Double check that you are saving your maps to the maps folder on the directory that you're running StarCraft on (most likely 'C:\Program Files\StarCraft\maps'), and also that you're saving your maps to the .scm. or .scx file extension. If you did that then it should appear on the list in StarCraft.

If you have too many files in one folder, StarCraft will not display all of them (unless you are in Battle.net. xD)

The directories are right and so are the file extensions. There aren't too many maps, because I've just recently downloaded StarCraft onto this computer. There are about 40 maps overall.

I've actually found that it just displays MORE in B.net, not all, that's why I alphabetize my maps ;)

UPDATE: I just recently edited an already existing map. When I save, I am prompted with a messagebox showing "Save as blizzard certified? Will not be playable over battle.net. (can cause 'unable to authenticate map error message')
Apparently SCMDraft isn't saving the map as a blizzard certified map? I'm not sure whether that has to do with editing a pre-made map or not, but it's not allowing it to be played over battle.net.

Ideas?

Well I've figured out why the maps won't show up. Instead of saving directly to Program Files, Vista is saving the map to Virtual Store instead. All I have to do is move the maps from Virtual Store to Program Files and they'll show up.
The only thing I'm having a problem with is that it's saving it to Virtual Store. If anyone has any suggestions to stop this, it would be appreciated.
Someone has already recommended changing the security permissions for the map editor and the folder. I've already been running the map editor as Administrator, but I haven't changed the permissions for the folder. I'll see if I can do anything there.
