When do you think that majority of people in the United States will stop focusing on the fact that President Barack Obama is black (African American) and start worrying about what he is going to do as the 44
th President? Most of the African community seems to be concentrated on the fact that "one of there own" now holds the seat as the President. Its not like now that we have a President who is African American that Caucasian people are going to be slaves and African Americans will rule the earth, or anything of that nature.
I asked one of my African American from my school if he thought President Barack Obama was 100% black, and he replied "yes". I then explained that he is 50% Caucasian, and 50% African American, and he went on about "If you're 50% African that makes you black, no matter what the other 50% of your nationality is". This is the kind of narrow-mindedness I am talking about. It just seems to me that most of the African American population just see "Black President" and gets excited and doesn't care about the rest of the story, specifically how he will lead the U.S. back out of the Economic trough that we are in now.
What do you think?
None.
Must be your town? Everyone around here stopped caring after he got inaugurated. It kinda feels like America voted Obama for some epic assassination or something, Least around here...

I live in NY and most of the people still talk about it.

That's kind of a narrow-minded way to look at it period. You can't expect black people NOT to get a smidget excited when the last 43 presidents have been white, and now someone who is at least partially African-American comes along and, against all the odds, wins the presidency. I should think it'd be pretty natural for excitement to ensue. The fact that people think he is 100% black is personal misconception, or pure ignorance on their part, but is by no means indicative of African-Americans as a whole. It's not as if he's sitting on his ass asking to be adored, you know? His first day in office he started making changes. The best thing to do is to let him show and prove.
Edit: I live in NY as well.

People are going to be pretty damn disappointed.
None.
Not necessarily.
What is laughable to me are the rumors that he's the anti-Christ, etc. Pure idiocy.
Obviously I'M the anti-Christ.. they will learn soon enough.

I discussed this because I felt quite passionate about it.
Basically, the united states probably divided their votes into:
Those who voted Barrack Obama because he's black.
Those who voted against Barrack Obama because he's black.
Those who voted for him because of his actual policies.
Those who voted against him because of his policies.
Ultimately, his skin colour WAS a factor in this election, perhaps a big one, perhaps not, i've not done a survey. However all this 'first ever black president' shit went on too long in my opinion. First ever Disabled Black Jewish Female President born in a bad neighbourhood, would be a bit more of an accomplishment. Quite frankly he's getting more then enough attention, but as he should, he just became president of the biggest dickheads on the planet and is now in charge of removing the title of the biggest dickheads, reverting the economic crisis your country fell into, restoring peace around the world and then furthering the development of not only third world countries but also the development of the human race. As well as global crisis and everything else that comes with human development and major issues.
He has a lot to do, and people jizzing over the fact you have a black president will not help anything. Being patient and not whiney would....

Thank you. A decent third party answer.

How do you define a decent answer? One that agrees with you?
Not trying to be rude, just want to know.

Somewhat. Its just that Shocko isn't biased, that I know of, and provides good response.

How can you agree with an opinion that justifies his selection on a poll?
I voted within the first 100 days. I think that the country DID select him partially because he's black and one of their own, and equally people voted against him because of their racist prejudice. It's not a matter of who's right and who's wrong here. It's a matter of personal opinion. You need to do a survey as I said to know what actually got him the vote...
None.
The hype will go down if he does a bad job, but if he actually restores the US for the better, the hype might never go down, until theirs a women president maybe.
None.
I live in NYC. The only hype you see now a days is just Obama t-shirt stands. It will die out in 1 year after people will realize what mistake they made.

Echo, I'm just here to say that I completely expected either president to be rather inadequate at solving the multiple social problems, but I believe Obama would handle it far better then McCain would.
None.
Okay, this isn't a debate about McCain or Obama. Personally I didn't really like both presidential candidates. But if you're saying by experience wise, McCain is far better. President = Commander in Chief. What military experience does Obama have?
None.
