How do you get air unit to start from one point and move outwards from that point while keeping them in the formation of a circle? I'm talking about something similar to a nova spell.

Although I've never used them, I think it's Mobile Grids. THINK.

Yeah, I've noticed this in a few maps, and I still have no idea how they do it, I think it's a rather simple setup, but I don't know what it is, I'd love to hear an answer to this myself..

And no, it's not a grid, I've opened up a few maps and they don't even have close to enough locations to pull it off, like in Particle Wars(Or whatever the map is called..) it can shoot any number of interceptors in a perfect circle, I mean, up to 80, no grid is that perfect, and they don't deselect, so it couldn't be running through them all.

If I were to do it, I would center a location on one of the units moving outward (let's assume there's 8), move it to a location far away, then create 25 devs in that spot.

OXOXO
XXXXX
OXXXO
XXXXX
OXOXO

Depending on which spot in the outward expanding circle the one you centered on was, you would center on one of the O's, then move your air unit back, after removal of the devs, and order it to the location that you centered on. You'd have to go through this for each of them, and repeat it every time they reached this new location.

I think for this method, they just order some amount to each corner of the map, which will cause a nearly perfect circle, depending on where they are.

Yeah, I doubt that it happens for 80 interceptors, in fact, since their interceptors, it's starting to make me think it's some sort of AI script..

Particle Arena just uses Junk Yard Dog to create its burst effect...the JYD AI script doesn't actually get the units constantly changing direction unless you keep running it, so when it's first run for a collection of units at a certain spot, all of those units pick different directions away from that spot and then keep going, forming a circle. Occasionally in Particle Arena, you'll see one or two interceptors that get the idea to change directions before they make it to the border of the arena, and thus wind up going in an unanticipated direction, but by and large the effect ends before anything other than the initial circle is formed.

We already had this: (Search for keyword "circle")

Ah, so when doing the JYD AI, StarCraft takes special measures to make sure no one goes in the same direction? Sweet!

It's less likely "special measures" than probability plus the fact that Starcraft air units don't like to stay stacked, but for whatever reason, the JYD script results in nice circles when done with enough units. Obviously, given the random nature of the AI script, the fewer units you use, the less like a circle it will look; to make a circle-ish shape with only a few units, you'll have to resort to mobile grids or other such ugliness.

interestingly, while testing stackable zerg units from disabled larva, I found that mutalisks (and other air units) are stackable. If you move them via a trigger, they will all get moved and not displaced at all. However, they STILL didn't like being on top of eachother, and ended up moving around, even though they technically have no collision box.

Can someone make a map to do this spell. It seems cool, but i've never seen it.

Well now that you know how to do it why don't you make it yourself? ;)
