EDIT 14oct: Added the Boss-Forest Stalker .wav, I have a few bosses' speeches finished, but this is one of my favorites. (A lot of the .wav's sound overmodlated because it's the best I can do with .wavs currently.)
EDIT: Revampped the Assassin and Warlord (and also Conjurer and Mystic, but not to extreme, simply to reduce the high frequency hurting thine ears!)
----------------
I'm making an expansive RPG called Shards of Dissension and I'm debating whether or not to add voice acting... namely, my voice (which sounds like a corney idea)
Posted are examples of the 4 guild leader's introductory quests with voice acting.
Compressed to the SMALLEST SIZE .wav file (PMC 8,00kHz 8bit, mono, 7kb/s) - leaves CRAPPY quality audio and about 80kb PER AUDIO CLIP (depending).
I'm expecting to have between 60-80vocal speech segments in my map between talking to villagers, announcements, quest npcs, and boses.
My map would end up being around 10megs.
Is it worth it? Would people bother downloading it, assuming it is an awesome RPG.
NOTE: Attached are .mp3 files to preserve quality as much as possible, while keeping the file size small.

None.
well im assuming this is a 1 player rpg, as i doubt anyone will be willing do download over the slow shit battle net
but i really like the voices, its always better to have voices than huge blocks of text across the screen.
you might want to make the voices louder, i turned my volume all the way up, AND put on headphones, and i was able to hear it like normal.
i seriously doubt most people play with volume turned all the way up, so you should speak louder(if that is your voice)
None.
Easy fix, I'll repost/replace those files in a few minutes as i boost the audio on 'em.
EDIT: DONE, and no it's up to a 4 person RPG. Spells are designed to play well solo, but best as a team (Example: Warlord taunts, while Mystic summons them into a void)

None.
Well I plastered hugeass wavs all over Rush and (for a single player RPG) it wasn't a
complete disaster...
None.
well if its single player, you download it off the internet and you play it alone.
rush was awesome btw tux.
well, since its pretty huge, no regular bnetter would play it.
however, i would probably play with my friends on iccup or something.
None.
Ah, the conjurer's voice just bugs me. It's good, it's just that the voice just...angers me.
I dunno about a 4 player map with huge sound files, considering bnet pubbies are impatient as hell. But, it does sound like a really fun game to play with your friends, if you nailed the gameplay right. Sounds like an MMO haha.
None.
You can play around with
Audacity too for some neat effects.
None.
I think a female voice would fit conjurer more. Lol, the more I listen to it, a bit of my sanity is chipped off.
None.
I'll work on it, obviously i just bumpped up the frenquency to the Conjurer's "voice" to make it sound higher pitched like a females'. I'm out of luck with females here in Afghanistan unless I can find female SEN volunteers.
EDIT: Added a lower frequency Conjurer. Still no chick, sorry. Close your eyes and imagine Megan Fox, or something.

SDE, BWAPI owner, hacker.
The only problem with the mystic is the line "bathe yourself in its
light". It makes him sound evil.
The warlord needs to sound more aggressive. You make him sound like he doesn't like war, but he should.
The assassin is fine, not good, just fine. It sounds like someone talking to me through a microphone.
The conjurer is just bad.
If you put voice acting in your map, yes people will download it because it would be the only map out with it, so you have no competition. The problem is you have too nasally a voice to be doing it yourself. If you know someone with a smoother or stronger voice, get their help. There is no way I could play your map for more than 5 minutes listening to your voice.
The voice acting isn't very convincing in my opinion. I would seek the help of
IskatuMesk for help in this area. If StarCraft wasn't so crappy and outdated, I'd say go for it, but due to it being the way it is, I wouldn't advise having voice acting for every bit of dialogue in your map. Displaying text is fine as it is. Also, the voices seem a bit too processed.
Voice Acting!! It what makes your map so unique
None.
I'd say only include voice acting for cut scenes(if you are implementing those). It'd be sorta like FFIV on DS

Am I really the only person who can even barely pull this off
without voice editing?
Unfortunately, my best female voice seems very inappropriate for any type of RPG. ... If I had stuff to say I might take a shot at it, but I lack a good microphone and such.
My not-best female voice probably doesn't sound female at all (patched up it might be ok).
EDIT:
I just listened to yours... I think it sounds good. ;o I probably should've listened to the sounds before I decided to post.
EDIT2:
v2 is definitely better than the other one.

Thanks Farty. I've been reediting those audio files so many times, I think I have a final version for all of it (including bosses, save a few) at this point, too lazy to keep reposting them though.
