The Xanadu Project was a dream given form. A massive virtual world, linked to reality through Transfer Points, spanning the entire globe. With Transfer Point technology, people became able to enter this virtual world bodily, move around in it, then exit at a different point, creating a highly efficient mode of travel. The artificial intelligence TRANCE was put in control of Xanadu and tasked with keeping it safe.

It failed.

Roughly a year ago, terrorist hackers uploaded a malicious program, dubbed the X-Virus, into the core of Xanadu, driving TRANCE insane. Virus agents began attacking travelers in Xanadu. It got worse when the virus and rouge TRANCE programs began to exit Xanadu through the Transfer Points and attacking people in the real world. Now the only hope we have is the Xanadu Defense Force, or XDF, a team of warriors charged with entering Xanadu and destroying the core, which would theoretically shut down the X-Virus and TRANCE. Of course, this won't be easy.

Code: Xanadu is a combined effort by ForTheSwarm and myself. The mod has a unique gameplay mechanic in the form of Transfer Points, which allow units to cross over to Xanadu and back. (The left side of the map represents the real world, the right half represents Xanadu.) Transfer Points may be either preplaced or built by workers.

THE XDF

The XDF are the human faction in Code: Xanadu. They are the closest to a normal RTS race. All XDF units are somewhat weaker in Xanadu than in the real world, except the Enforcer infantry. All XDF mechanical units are equipped with a Nano-Repair System which slowly recharges their HP over time. The XDF's signature unit is the Firehawk, a flying transport which can Transfer anywhere without need for a Transfer Point.

TRANCE

TRANCE is the second closest to a normal RTS race. TRANCE does not mine, but slowly gains resources over time based on the number of Substation structures they control. All TRANCE structures may only be built on Creep, which is spread by TRANCE Spires (Assimilators) and nothing else. TRANCE players must not lose their starting base, as doing so causes the player to lose the game.

TRANCE only has five units, but each TRANCE unit may be Improved in various areas (except their worker). For example, a Purifier-class bomber may become a Null Purifier, which is immune to all spells (including allied spells).

THE X-VIRUS

The X-Virus is a pretty unusual faction. They have no resources and no buildings. All X-Virus units are created by casting Spawn Broodlings on allied units, which creates two larva-esque units. Two larva units may fuse to create a Corruption (supply provider), and two Corruptions in turn may fuse to create a Replicator (the unit that casts Spawn Broodlings).

PROGRESS

The XDF faction will be finished in time for SMC4. TRANCE and the X-Virus have not been started at this point. Currently, the only big things left to do for the XDF are triggers and more precise balancing.

That's sexy. Lemme know...nevermind. I probably couldn't help you with your mapmaking, and I don't understand modding at all [I really just don't like it because I can't do it on my computer--WinME sucks balls]. Lemme know if you need some help that I can do without modding...

which would be essentially, nothing...Poop.

Sounds promising. Have anything ready for screenshots yet?

I can sense some Babylon 5 influence in your opening paragraph.

@Mauron: Was wondering if anyone would get that.

I'll post some screenshots when I get back home from school, please don't lock yet. Sorry I didn't do so earlier... *facepalms*

Yah, I do, but I don't know how to convert that weird format SC uses into something useful.

Also, TRANCE's Improvement mechanic has been removed. They now get Vespane Gas via a Kills to Cash system, which can be used to "level up" their troops or converted into minerals.

He's had enough time. Not being able to convert the "weird format SC uses" is no excuse specially to a modder.

I like the storyline, it's a bit weird, but original.

But, as much as I hate to, I have to agree with the people above me; screenshots help make mods popular.

A fleet of XDF warships. The unit I have selected is the Ghast-class fighter. It can attack both land and air, and has a concussive bouncing laser as an alt attack against ground targets. The battlecruiser is the Warspire, a large capital ship equipped with mini-nukes, anti-air missiles, and a Ventral Cannon that fires at targets directly under the Warspire. The final unit is the Darkling, a cheap cloakable air-to-air fighter.

(user posted image)
The XDF Surveyor. It is a cloaked APC which Detects. Each one carries three Deployable Covers (Bunkers).

(user posted image)
A little XDF base. If you look near the Barracks, you can see an M-Gunner, the XDF's basic combat unit. Also, notice the new minerals.

More screenshots coming soon.

Keep the minerals the same colour. It looks so messy with random jumbles of colours.

I thought it was cool... Regardless, minerals are all now black.

TRANCE is almost complete, btw.

What? It's basically a Wraith without the ground attack, what's hard to understand?

TZ, it's probably because of the name: Darkling.

Put the screenshots in first post please.

I think he means that it's the name of a member here on SEN... http://www.staredit.net/?member=1721 Edit: damn, FTS beat me to it. :(

The mod looks interesting though. You said there was some sort of a "virtual world." Do you have any maps with that done yet? I'd like to see how it looks.

The virtual world uses the same tiles as the real world, because neither of us are good at tileset editing. Unless someone wants to help out?
