Quote from Fire_Kame
No nurse role, detective is invincible, no reveal during the game.
Does this mean the detective is invincible during the day? If so, the detective can have the players "lynch" him on the first day to clear his name. If not, one mafia can pretend to be the detective and contact townies, building up a fake network of innocent players. Then it would be really difficult to lynch the fake detective without accidentally killing the real one, and the town would never know if they got the right guy.

I'll consider joining.

Win by luck, lose by skill.

Nope, he can be lynched.

No, just at night.

Jul 28 2013, 8:50 pm Fire_Kame Post #45

wth is starcraft

Unless my counting sucks, 7/13 want to use an invincible detective (at night), no nurse, no role reveal.

I'll give it one more week to hit 15 - so if we hit 15 or if the week runs out (8/2), which ever happens first, that's when the game will start.

IF YOU ARE SIGNING UP, PLEASE BE SURE YOU ARE OKAY WITH AN INVINCIBLE DETECTIVE, NO NURSE, AND NO ROLE REVEAL SET UP.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

I'm surprised only ray seems to recognize that finding out player alignments via role PMs is not in the spirit of mafia.
Especially since Az has proven how easily PM strategy can break a game.

I feel like it largely takes away the element of talking to people in favor of ultimatums that need to be fulfilled. And if I observed correctly sometimes even reaction time played a role, while I always perceived mafia as a pretty laid back game.

PMs aren't going to affect gameplay this time around, especially since the detective PMs have been made public.

DAY 0

Coming to this town had been something that caused me a fair bit of agony for the past twenty four hours but I knew it was time to put what was done in the past and move on. I thought to sneak in under cover of night and perhaps visit a few friends, have a few drinks, you know, the usual when you come into a town of people that don't like you. Well, don't like isn't quite the phrase, but I didn't have many friends and my enemies were numerous. It wasn't anything I did, you see - I was just trying to make an honest day's living doing private investigator work of a simplistic nature. I looked a little too far down the rabbit hole and I was chased out of town before you could say Wonderland. It was about eleven in the morning when I realized I was all out of haunts. The last one on my list had been overhauled into a car wash, a fitting analogy for me, all washed up and no where to go. It was at this point I decided to go see the last of my friends in this town, IsolatedPurity.

It amazes that he ever took a liking to me, the only reason I took interest in him was because his wife at the time, a dame named Ella, wanted me to snoop around in his past and see just how many others he had on the side. He was raving mad when I blew the top off that one, I will tell you that much, even though he was the only one surprised by the discovery. The town of Sencity had all been thinking it, you see, they all knew that everything was not alright in paradise. You may be wondering what it is that would have the town of Sencity so wrapped up in one man's business. Well, to answer that properly I will have to split it up into two parts. First, he was the mayor of Sencity and not a well loved one at that. He had more enemies than I had, and that is to say quite a few. The second part is the sheer corruption of Sencity; everything from politics to industry to even the shoddy deals that mere school children played on each other. It all stank to high heaven in a way that I doubt even the guy upstairs was able to spare an ounce of sympathy. It was with good reason that no one liked him, he was corrupt and the corrupt city was jealous that they could not be more so.

So now we get to the scene of the crime. Like my past, even my present seems to be haunted. After visiting the car wash I walked the remaining blocks to the mayor's office, hoping he'd be in to chat. There was quite a crowd when I got there; much ado about a speech of some sort, the usual pomp and circumstance for someone like IsolatedPurity. I walked by, hat pulled down to shade my eyes and my trench coat pulled tight to disguise my figure. But the disguise could never get through Margaret and I figure that's the reason IsolatedPurity kept her around. At least, that is the only decent reason I care to think of. "Well imagine seeing you around here," she said, her smirk showing even through her eyes. "Do you want me to buzz you right in or should I make you fill out the paperwork Mr.-"

"Don't call me that, don't call me anything at all."

"Maintaining a low profile are you? Tony and his boys still have you scared?" She asked. She always had a way of doing that - asking more than she could handle. I couldn't bear to bother her, I kept my mouth shut and my gaze on her. She relented after a couple minutes. "Very well please wait here, I will go tell the mayor you are here to see him," she said, pointing to the receiving area. I sat down in over stuffed chair, pulled out a cigarette and lighter. Margaret cleared her throat and pointed at a clearly marked no smoking sign. Different times indeed. I heard her heals clack away down the marble hall towards the mayor's office. I heard her knock on the door once, and then a second time a little louder. She called through the door to no response, and then once more. Her voice became frantic as she tried to open the office door, clearly jammed in some way.

I was beside her at that point. I pressed her away from the door, elbowing it once and then twice until it finally gave way to the gruesome scene. IsolatedPurity was lying face down in a puddle of his own blood, a bullet wound clean through his head. By this point the hall behind me had filled with people - members of the press, civilians, and office workers. They all gasped at the sight of the dead man on the floor. I grabbed Margaret right as she looked as if she was about to faint. "Are you alright? Good, I need you to call the widow," I said by instinct.

"Yes, call the widow and what?" Margaret responded, pulling herself together. It dawned on me then. This was no longer my town. Another private eye was roaming the streets and cleaning up its mess. Who? I wasn't sure. But it would be better if I just stay out of it.

"Call her and tell her what has happened. Well go on!" I chastised her. With Margaret gone I surveyed the remaining onlookers. I saw shock and surprise, perhaps a little sadness. I even thought I saw relief in some eyes. But the strangest thing of all was the lack of tears. It was all for show, any sadness these townspeople felt would not be for the mayor. In fact, anyone in this room - or beyond - could be the villain here. And if not that, any one of the people here could be in communication with the villains, carrying out orchestrated orders. Yes, they were all on stage, trying to look a little less guilty than the next one.

I would do my own snooping into the matter, I felt I owed it to Ella - she was a stand up dame. But I could not interfere, not with this matter. This was between a town and their mayor.

Just here for the pie

Alright, so I'm just going to post this now. I see no reason not to.

Quote from Fire_Kame
Short and to the point, the mayor was no one’s favorite. He was re-elected term after term out of fear for the unknown and convenience. But to go so far as to murder him, why even you, a private detective by trade, could not fathom why someone would do such a thing. Using your street smarts to stay alive you know that you will receive no help from the other townspeople in unraveling this twisted mystery. But then again, can you really blame them?
