OK well I have been playing this game lately with about five of my mates so far we're around level 15 gotta say this MMO has beautiful graphics and they've really changed up some things.
Like, if you are too high level for areas or quest, your level actually decreases to the level of that zone you are in while you are in that zone. So basically, everything is a challenge regardless of your level. Unless of course you are a low level guy going into a high level area then you get raped. It's also really neat to stop power leveling because the high level people get brought down to the low level persons.
Crafting instead of having % change of the craft being successful it is on a XP system, getting marginally less XP as the level past the recipe. I believe more rewarding that way.
Gathering, all gathering locations are unique to the player therefore there is never that system where people are fighting over resources.
Weather system is also neat.
Storyline seems at this point to be the only let down - basically it is a static screen with your char and the NPC talking to each other. Skip it or listen. They should have gone the Diablo 3 way - storyline given to you as you play.
I can see this being a very dangerous MMO to my free time - addictive and no subscription fee to stop me from playing. XD
Anyway, what do you guys think?
Oh and currently they have 94 on metacritic:

I'm surprised. Someone has been trying to access my Guild Wars account for the past week so I thought I was missing out, but I don't find those images too compelling to pick up Guild Wars 2. Your avatar's clothes looks like it has a decent amount of detail, but the background is a bit of a let down.

I think Guild Wars is kind of lame, being as hypercasual as it is, so I don't have much reason to defend it. However, to be fair, he didn't say what graphics settings he's using, so the way the background looks doesn't mean much until he shares that information.

Say hi to my somewaht creepy tree people necromancer
Been playing since Saturday and so far I really like it. Had to change server cause I ended up on the unofficial Italian server. Currently on Gunnar's Hold (EU).
Zycorax's picture is a little more impressive.
Graphics are meh.
Gameplay, from what I've seen, meh.
Once you get past the "OH GOODY ITS NEW AND SPARKLY" factor I'm sure you'll lose interest.
None.
The graphics in gw2 are nothing special. Nothing that compete with a UDK game, that's for sure. It's depressing they are still using BSP for 90% of the cliffs, because all the mesh-based doodads look pretty good for a 2005 game.
Gameplay is good. It's one of the few MMO's with a challenge. I like the non-structured gameplay. I can go where ever I want and fuck things up 8 levels above me, but stuff my level still can give me a lot of trouble.
I liked GW1 for the heros, so GW2 didn't have anything to offer me off the bat. The siege warfare in WvWvW is why I'll keep playing for at least as long. Jade Quarry seems to be completely destroying us in WvW so eh. Not had much time to experience that between getting annihilated by JQ and the constant crashing that happens to me in there (some strange audio bug). I'm level 40 right now.
I wouldn't call it
hypercasual, seeing as it's really, really easy to die, and apparently the dungeon is ridiculous and like an hour long, so I won't be touching that. But it's massively more challenging than any of the other MMO's I've played to date. Unfortunately their AI system is braindead like every other game released in forever, there's no trade function, and the broker's been down since prelaunch.
As for story, games like Diablo 3 have no story, so that's a poor comparison. But I haven't played a game for its story since the n64 days. The dialogue seems ok and the voice acting, at least in the norn areas, seems average, so that's better than most games already. I'll give a more indepth review on the story if it tickles my taint when I start doing the actual story missions. So far, just exploring and crafting is keeping me content.

Show them your butt, and when you do, slap it so it creates a sound akin to a chorus of screaming spider monkeys flogging a chime with cacti. Only then can you find your destiny at the tip of the shaft.

Representing Jade Quarry here. Bahahaha.
Anyone interested in joining us over on JQ while the server transfers are still free can contact Yorn Keldrion in-game. I'm on after 6pm central. Mumble server is hyperion.typefrag.com 42277 goose.

I don't understand how you guys regularly own
all of the spawnpoint keeps. Is the three orb buff just that retarded or are our players just that bad? Well, I know for a fact that about half, so around 200+ people, of the players on Aspenwood just follow caravans around to "farm" exp very slowly. I also know that a warrior 1shotted me from full health with a 2handed sword due to that orb buff.
Here's a cool looking place I just reached.

His graphics we're on low or his graphics card was set to bare minimum, because thats what mine looks like on low settings.

This is what happened to me and my 3-month love affair with SWTOR. Because of that I'm super skeptical of GW2.
I liked some of the things in GW1, but never really stuck with it. I really want to play a new MMO, though, so maybe I'll just wait a while for a discounted price or something.

Well he says:
But if you have a screenshot of what your gameplay looks like I'd like to see it.

Huh no I swear it is on maximum!!! I'll prove it, bastards!
MaximumPNG JPEGMinimumThe screenshots in the OP were JPEG, these are PNG - that could be it.
Switching from maximum to minimum doesn't seem to do much to the scenery, it just modifies the soldier for more detail, it looks like to me.
I've been paying more and more attention to GW2, as many, MANY people have told me it was really good.
I wanted to know the price, but apparently they were sold out.. even of the digital version... how silly is that?!
Anyway, I have a question that I want to ask.
How is GW2 different than other MMO's?
None.

It isn't. It's just done pretty damn good.
Find Me On Discord (Brood War UMS Community & Staredit Network)
It has looked critically at problems that previous MMOs have had and has fixed them. At least that's what I see.
The problem is that the art style hasn't changed since the first GW, despite the more graphics power available.
I don't like their shader, it's not very good, at all.

But props to ArenaNet for not making a /terrible/ game. I dislike most MMOs just because I dislike the standard gameplay, but apparently if you get the recipe right people will come in droves.

Can you name some of these problems for reference?
