So, this is a question that I'm interested in..

After all that hype and stuff, and seeing what SC2 really is.. we can now calmly make a prediction for ourselves whether or not we'd buy the next installment of SC2 and keep giving money to Blizzard.

Make sure you leave a comment for your "..."s

Mine is ... No, unless they...

1. Do a complete overhaul of the Custom Map System
2. Make the editor more user-friendly
3. Do not introduce the Map Market
4. Open Cross-Region
5. Give B.net 2 servers more speed and make it ezier to read chat channels (like adding shadows to the letters), and generally make it better
6. give it an Expansion price (<30$)

OR

1. Do a complete overhaul of the Custom Map System
2. Make the editor more user-friendly
3. Do not introduce the Map Market
4. Introduce a New Race, completely debunking the leaked ending cutscene (that way, at least it's worth the single player campaign)

I'll buy it if I get a job this summer only because I love starcraft no matter what. WoL's campaign was unsatisfying and multiplayer pisses me off, but I still have to know the story.

Actually, if I just wanna play the campaign, I should just torrent it. :P

I'll be getting it for sure, very few complaints with SC2 as far as UMS goes and they're understandably focusing on the massive growth in the melee scene.

Pretty much the only thing that could stop me is if DotA 2 comes out first and is everything I want it to be.

I'll probably buy it straight away if I have my own computer by then. If I don't I may delay it for a while.

I'll probably buy it. But then I don't play multiplayer at all, so I might just pirate it instead.

Yes, as long as they don't...

I have no money. I'll probably get it eventually, though. As long as they don't release it quickly (and that's not exactly a challenge for Blizzard), I will be able to get it as it comes out.

I wonder if melee will introduce new units for melee like Broodwar did for SC. If it has an influence on the melee scene, it's pretty much mandatory to get it if you have any interest in SC2.

I bet the release will be more like Warcraft III, though, where the expansion will only provide new campaign units and maybe an improvement on the editor.

TL;DR: I'll get it when I can afford it.

4. Open Cross-Region

But that's because I want to reward them for sc1, not because sc2 deserves $60.
Still this point is a huge issue for me, and I won't invest money in a company that continues to disappoint me.

No, unless Zerg is made more threatening in the early-mid game, the map editor is made more user friendly (I didn't even try to touch it because it messes with my brain so much, which justifies my lack of activity on SEN lately), there's some new units as it was in BroodWar, AND it's sold at an expansion price.

I'll say just like NudeRaider, I've been disappointed. I'll invest in a Kinect, Duke Nukem Forever, Gears of war 3, Mortal Kombat and my college debt before I buy anything else from Blizz if those are not fixed.

Would've been easier to just click 'No, Definitely not.' And saved your self the effort of typing that out.

One final thing, did you actually buy a copy of Starcraft 2? Because technically you havn't given any money to Blizzard if that's the case

I will be buying HotS as soon as it hits the shelves. I won't be pre-ordering for the simple reason that I pre-ordered Starcraft 2 but it never got here until two days after release. But that is a fault with the British Mail courier services, and not Blizzard. Single player content for HotS is available at the next BlizzCon, I am excite.

Edit: And I am pretty sure it will ship with Expansion price plus a few bucks on top. At least, this is what Blizzard officially said when Starcraft 2 was announced. Although, I really wouldn't mind if they charged full whack for the expansion, provided that each one came with the same content as Wings of Liberty (+80 unit models, effects, actors, weapons etc).

Gone.

I remember reading that they weren't planning on adding that many units to the core game (my assumption is that each race will get 1 or 2 new ones, just like Brood War), but hopefully the campaign will give us a ton more to play with.

Er... because one game autocorrects for failures? That's like saying don't buy an X-Box because Halo has auto-aim.

I played a bunch of Olympic and sports games at a friend's place one night, it was a lot of fun, very responsive, and seemed nearly as good as the Wii without any controller, and thus obviously better in a lot of scenarios. Dunno if it's worth the $100 or whatever, but definitely not something you could do on a computer.

@ HOTS, they better add at least a half dozen new units. The game is already getting pretty damned stale and mechanical, there's not enough to work with. Definitely a good base to build off of, but BW for SC was a huge jump for the multiplayer and I expect HOTS to be too.

@ Faz- - The problem with Kinect is that, like with any motion controls, there's no feedback and there's not enough finesse to it. Because kinect is not integrated into the console like the wii's motion control, you have the option to not buy it.. So don't..
The second, and probably bigger reason, is because there's not a lot of good software (aka Games) backing up Kinect.

@ Cardinal - Nope, I have not given any money to Blizzard.. Not even for SC/BW.. because the battlechest was a gift :)
.. tho that's not really the point.. there's a lot of games to be enjoyed for free or for money.. the question is whether or not this next installment would be worth my time/money.
And unless it covers my personal criteria, I'd say no to that question.

If I said "No, definately not", then that's unfair, because SC/BW was and still is great, and I believe there is some hope there... Albeit not much left...

@ Devlin - I expect the same melee wise. But I also expect them to throw a lot of things into the "extras" just to lure people in.. "extras" being everything other than Melee... and "a lot of things" being things that should've been in the first installment...
