wth is starcraft

Let's recap...

Jessi Slaughter had a youtube account where she would post webcam videos of her talking. Pretty normal behavior for an eleven year old right? Well, if you get past the fact that eleven year olds shouldn't be posting on the internet without parental supervision. To no one's surprise, internet tough guys from 4chan decided to bully her. In response she posted more videos one of which says she'll "pop a glock in your mouth and make a brain slushy." 11 year old. Well of course that just drove the hate machine further...the death threats started coming in, personal information was revealed, and even her dad went off on people bullying his daughter in one of her webcam videos (you may now notice it in the meme YOU DUN GOOFED, also anything about Cyber Police and Back Tracking.). Earlier this morning, she was interviewed on Good Morning America, and said that she cussed and acted that way because her webcam was an outlet to release anger. To agitate things further...there are screencaps of her trying to sext with someone on formspring, and there are video feeds or pictures of her naked floating around. I haven't seen those yet, so I don't know if they're real or shopped. I have seen the formspring ones and they look pretty legit. From what I've seen, she's under police protection and she is banned under court order from using the internet, and is receiving counselling.

So what are your opinions of the whole fiasco?

I think we gave the girl what she wanted: attention. Furthermore, I don't think the parents were punished nearly enough. They had full knowledge of what was going on, and they are made to be victims instead of examples of poor parenting. Honestly guys, why would you let an 11 year old play on webcam unsupervised? Or furthermore, why do you think that's a safe outlet for anger? I don't see how she's any better than the cyber bullies who attacked her.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

My girlfriend showed this to me a few days ago and I felt like she deserved worse. Two minutes in and I wanted to smack some sense into her. "You bitches are just jealous" is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard from an eleven-year-old. She clearly had no idea what the internet really was, and was stupid to think she wouldn't get slaughtered (HAHA SEE WHAT I DID THERE?!). At first I felt bad for the parents, but then I came to a similar conclusion as you where they knew what was going on and if they didn't happen to see her latest "pop a glock" video, then they should have better control over their spawn and therefore take responsibility for how dumb she is.

she says she "parties until she passes out and fucks till she bleeds." She deserves worse. The judge banned her for three days a while ago; she can go back on legally. Her parents are fucking retarded. "No I haven't seen the videos, I don't even go on the computer." Her boyfriend is in his twenties.

Relatively ancient and inactive

Not sure why this really deserves a discussion. So we can all get on here and complain about which idiots are worse, the girl and her parents or the internet? So we can moan about how society is losing its moral integrity and how shameful this all is? That's not SD.

Anyway: Who cares, they're all idiots. There are better things to spend your time thinking about.

She got what she deserved. Doing that on the internet is like walking in dark alleys wearing a coat made of money and not expect to get mugged.

Nope.

It's not. I hope I never have a daughter for various reasons, emotions and anger being one of them. I will instill in my children the absolute fear of social networking and putting yourself out there for all the world to see. That's one of the reasons I've never put my picture up on SEN (it's on facebook, under my real name though). I try hard to keep them completely separate. I even have multiple usernames for multiple things (rockz is only for starcraft, whathuh was for diablo, I have a separate username for rhythm games, and a separate email/username for questionable activities).

Here's another example of cyber bullying, which I think actually turned out pretty good. The end result is that the secrets are revealed, and wounds can be healed. The guy's getting psychiatric help. Reminds me a lot of Ms. Leonhardt.

THIS IS THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD! I love 4chan for this. <3

EDIT: Whoa, this is in the SD? I thought it was in the null. D: Okay well in that case, I'll try to come up with a more well constructed answer.

I've seen this topic in other places and a lot of people are saying that she got a bit more than she deserved. Like the rest of you here, I disagree. After people online started harassing her in real life, her dad got on and screamed at the webcam. In that video, she said that she had done nothing to deserve this. This girl is obviously stupid. She threatened to blow peoples brains out if they kept talking badly about her, and she bragged about the dumbest things. She claimed to have sex with the lead singer of the band "Blood On The Dance Floor" or something like that. Like Devlin said, she's stupid for making those comments about how others are jealous of her beauty. She's eleven years old. She obviously has no sense, and I can't stop laughing when I watch her videos.

Here are the videos in case you haven't seen them. So funny.

Also, THE CONSEQUENCES WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!

It just goes to show how people with perfectly good english can be really fucked up...

Another discussion I'd like to bring out is the fact how younger and younger kids are using computers excessively nowadays. Yeah, sure, we all use computers a lot too... but kids that are exactly about Jessi's age are completely desensitized and open for attack. I started noticing this when a friend of mine helped tutor some kids.. Man, that girl had panda eyes worse than me!! I mean, I'm pretty bad already (probly not as bad as farty, tho) but she was like 6 years younger than me, and she's already worse off. More strange is the fact that she was a girl... usually only guys have this problem.. but now, due to the rather recent explosion of networking services on the internet, I think girls spend probably the same amount of time as us PC gamers!
This, plus poor parenting skills, make for a bad problem...

So, moral of the story? When you become a parent, DO A FUCKING GOOD JOB AND DON'T HALF ASS IT NOOBS..
and BEAT YOUR KIDS.

Yes, I encourage the occasional spanking. It's not enough to scar your kids for the rest of their lives, but it's enough to teach them what's right and what's wrong.

There was a girl at my school who committed suicide last year because she wasn't popular enough on Youtube.
Her dad said "good riddance" shortly thereafter and is now in prison for something-or-another.
Her mom quit her job and now spends all day moping around.

The girl's parents had no idea of her internet life at all.

I've never been a fan of parental control locks or anything, but at least parents should know what the hell their kids are doing. It's insane that they had no idea.

As someone who was very poorly socially-adjusted when young (but not anywhere near as bad as this girl), and who made an ass of himself on the Internet (and IRL) on a regular basis, I can safely say that parents should always supervise their children. The more psychologically abnormal the kid, the more heavily they need to be monitored. A kidiot like I used to be, for example, should have at minimum a keylogger on their computer, along with at least two programs specifically designed to backup their internet history even after deletion.

Bottom line is, most parents know nothing about their kids Internet lives. This is why the Slaughter debacle happened. It's why countless kids have ended up skullfucked, figuratively speaking. Parents need to watch their damn kids when said kids are on a computer.

Parents can either be apathetic dicks or control freaks. Both extremes are very, very bad. Silent moderation of your children and nudging them towards a less deviant path rather than going RAGE I DISOWN U is definitely the way to go.

I think youtube is a pretty cool guy. eh uploads stupid vidyas resulting in becoming an hero and doesnt afraid of anything.
I say "good riddance" to the entire family. May their respective paths to Hell be shortened and violent.

Jessi is a classic example of why parents should not feed selfish personalities and why self-esteem should be deflated. Seems like she learned nothing from this trip of humility though. Public humiliation should be a rite of passage into life beyond 8 years old.

Jul 24 2010, 7:20 pm DavidJCobb Post #15

Self-esteem and ego are not the same, Sandy, and only a cruel and heartless deity would send pain-motivated pain-motivated suicides to Hell.

Kids should be taught to not have an ego, to not believe that they are superior to everyone else or that they're entitled. But a lack of self-esteem can be devastating, as can its closely-related friend: a lack of self-worth.
