I already mentioned that you have 32 players at your disposal, 16 of which are playable by humans. The map limit is not 256x256.
Sources please? :O
Heinermann is the source. No further sources needed.
(Meaning he found it in the data files / xml sheets)

I am appalled by the amount of heinermann doubt/ignorance in this topic.

We also have over 256 players to our disposal in SC 1... and 12 are available to play with in the editor itself, though only 8 are human-playable. ;o

The editor features a proprietary scripting language called Galaxy[25] based on C, but users will also have access to the more user friendly Trigger Editor which will allow beginner and intermediate map designers to make advanced maps without having to learn the scripting language.[6][17]

what does it mean based on C? I've used C a long time ago and most recently java but it has been a while since I have coded and I don't really know much terms when it comes to coding. Does based on mean it was written in C and developed a new programing code which will have more specific features for starcraft?

thnx for all response in advancd.

Btw Its based on C++ right not the old c?

Based on means it will have extremely similar syntax. It's based on C, though C++ is just a superset of C, and is probably less different from C than Galaxy will be. (I just realised you can pronounce Galaxy as Galax-C)

So galaxy is written to resemble C for users to become more familiar with Galaxy code and its uses. So it can have features of C++ if the programers that created Galaxy decided to include them correct? This is why we are will be able to modify galaxy objects but yet not create our own objects to write as we need?

This is very interesting already feel my brain clicking back into programing mode. Is there anywhere we can download and use C for free or have a trial use of it to become reaquainted with it? I will try to google but not always the best at findign what I want.

Well, they said it is not an object-oriented language, and C++ is much more object oriented, so I'd say it's probably more similar to C than C++, simply because you cannot create your own objects.

It would be nice if the map editor was similar to SCMDraft since it's easy to use, fast, and can do everything.

About the map size. 256x256 can't be the max... Can anyone confirm if this is true???

There are only 12 players in Starcraft 1. 8 of which are playable, even though I'm pretty sure Storm.dll supports 12 human players.

I already posted the galaxy functions and types etc. Here it is again:
http://vgce.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/docs/Blizzard/Starcraft%20II/galaxyScript_B13891B.txt
http://vgce.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/docs/Blizzard/Starcraft%20II/galaxyTypes_B13891B.txt
http://vgce.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/docs/Blizzard/Starcraft%20II/galaxyCallbacks_B13891B.txt
These were done within the first three days of beta release.

Galaxy Wiki (Created by Mike Lat)

I'm currently NOT working on Starcraft II Beta (got boring) in favor of continuing BWAPI. But even if I take a break, I'll still be ahead of most people who are actually working on it.

Does it mean we can redefine how triggers are being executed :P Nice stuff.

What the hell, no one else is upset we don't have to store variables in deaths of random units? What a rip off.

Yeah, yeah. And that we won't need to use binary countoffs to extract that values... That is sad. Nostalgia.

What's wrong with that? Triggers don't need objects at all. ;o

Anybody have links to good sites to familiarize myself with C? I'm taking a Java course right now and know a little PHP, so it doesn't look too bad. But still it would be helpful. :P

found some stuff on google/you tube videos. Was very helpful one even points you to a free downloadable c++. I would start with those. Try googling C++ for beginings or soemthing like that. Should get a bunch of videos.

They did say they'd have a user friendly interface so people can learn through that, right?

Yah totally, even if it has language scripting i'd still prefer the old fashion sc editing. Here are some things to get you started in C++:

The URLs listed over there helped me a lot getting started :)
