A StarCraft total conversion by Voyager7456

Premise



Features:
  • Three fully-realized factions with their own style of play:
    • The relentless Consensus adapts to enemy weaponry as the battle goes on and uses their impressive production abilities to produce massive swarms of units directly on the battlefield.
    • The defensive AEGIS holds fixed positions with unmatched tenacity and deploys advanced support drones to supplement their forces.
    • Transdyne Galactic uses its economic muscle to wear enemies down in a war of attrition.
  • Custom graphics and sound work.
  • Unique new abilities and upgrades powered by the GPTP.

Faction Overview:
The so-called Consensus of Parts are the "descendants" of the original automated colonization ships sent out by humanity over 150 years ago. The machines have undergone dramatic changes in both design and behavior after contact was lost, and will often attack on sight - whether this represents true malicious intent or is in service of some inscrutable is as of yet unknown.

The Consensus is a swarm faction, its units tend to be faster and cheaper than any other faction, but also more expendable. It is also an adaptive hivemind - rather than upgrading weapons and armor normally, they gain upgrades by observing combat where their units participate. While this requires the use of multiple probing attacks to upgrade, there is no cap on how many upgrades they can gain like this. While Consensus losses may be heavy, they can ideally reinforce their ranks faster than enemies can destroy them. The massive floating Assimilators can even produce units directly on the battlefield while still pressing the attack.

Faction Overview:
While no definitive link has yet been proven between Transdyne Galactic and the various mercenary groups that have been spotted operating on the fringes of the Consensus War, intelligence experts tend to agree on two points: 1) they are being funded by an organization with extremely deep pockets, and 2) a statistically unlikely number of "stolen" R&D prototype weapons seem to have made it into their hands. If Transdyne is indeed behind these attacks it remains unclear what they hope to achieve, but one thing is for certain - they will find a way to profit off the chaos.

Transdyne Galactic is an immensely powerful corporation that fights using hired mercenary groups. Their forces are not as powerful as AEGIS or as numerous as the Consensus, but Transdyne has one major advantage: their wallet. As Transdyne, your economic muscle far outstrips the other two factions and you should leverage this fact to simply continue replacing units until you've worn them down through attrition. Use your stealth units to level the playing field by disrupting enemy formations, then order a Rush Job to replace units before your enemies get back on their feet. Further press your enemies with an Economic Embargo until their resources run dry, then finish them off.

Faction Overview:
The AEGIS task force represents humanity's first mass military mobilization in over 150 years. Its forces are slow to advance, but exceptionally well-suited to holding defensive positions. Once AEGIS is entrenched, it becomes exceptionally hard to remove them and they can continue to advance their battle line by repositioning Artillery and APCs. Scout Mechs can deploy powerful support packages to further enhance these positions, or pave the way for Gunships to deliver assault forces on the enemy's doorstep. If resistance proves too formidable, they can always call in their singularly powerful Flagship to break hostile defenses.

Well, I checked that some of SC2 portraits' frames are too slow, so I can adjust frames per rate faster if you want.
Also for more wireframes if you have me a request.

Thanks, I appreciate all of the wireframe work that you've done! If you get a chance to modify portraits, I can use that as well.

I uploaded it. Also, I tried to change Transdyne Raven's portrait to SC2 Valkyrie Portrait for fitting well.
Hope you like it.

And I wonder where the unit's sound came from like AEGIS Scout Mech, or Transdyne Scavenger.

The Scout Mech's sounds came from Atrox and the Scavenger's sounds are Tosh from SC2. Thanks for uploading the portraits!

just play it second time.

premise is nice (the story Voyager write in 1st post), until i read "United Systems Confederacy" - :hurr: I know we all living in (north) america and currently USA is leading in cultural victory in real-live civilization. Ah.. whatever.

without AI its boring, i almost asleep. Even if the computer just spam endlessly 1 hostile unit (even workers) in front of the base, i could at least observe how my unit die, or test combat [de]buff. There is lots of upgrades, units and interesting mechanics - would like see in use, I just can not test it, because need to take care to not accidentally destroy enemy.

get friend and try multi? sorry comrade, its not that easy ["hey [my barely know acquaintance] would you like spend two hours of your after-work time trying some mods?", on current time, my social-environment prefers physical gatherings & board games].

i dont like 4x starting workers, and spending few minutes producing more. Can we start with 8x?

i dont like not explored map. I want to plan my next expansion, when the game start and workers gather resources.

Light Factory also allow to produce workers? its bad.

Recycling crabs lower armor. Not sure how this work in practice, but there is usually 1 point of armor (or zer0), wouldnt it be better if recycle crab create 1x minerals with each attack?

Mechanoformer, has no function (spawning creep is not enough) and act like Creep Colony currently, even worse, because you can morph Creep into Sunken/Spore.

Asymilator - would be dope if his bottom arm would be animated a little. Pliers closing, arm wave left-right, bend in actuators (a little, to not alter GRP)

centurion - name suggest is some kind of commander, not basic cannon fodder. Has shield but 0 armor? the GRP is too similar to medic, please recolor it more boldly.

scout mech - can not target neither ground nor air unit (i try friendly fire only although :))

warhead manufacture shield upgrade error - wrong tooltip
Prototype research - gravity distorter - wrong tooltip

Firebat (forgot his name) has excellent upgrade that remove garrisoned units. Great.

Flagship has weird sound when he attack.

warping as researchable technology is neat idea

Transdyne corporation theft

UI frame on corner (right esp) is hindering the tooltips (black)

often occur error ID278 Warpin & ID280 Init - ... red text something wrong

I like the idea of supply required to build structures (shame that only one)

I have more insights, but this is what i bother to write down. :-_-: . Really nice total conversion, will try again if you add basic AI ( reapeat: if (1st unit quantity !=10) "build 1st combat unit" else "send to enemy base ";).

story you make seems is nice, would like to read more (because you are not making single campaign?).

Hey Lagi, thanks for the feedback. I am actually working on an update with AI support, but unfortunately I've been very busy at work recently so progress has been slow. It is coming though!

I spend most of my time playing board games these days too :P We used to have regular mod nights on the SEN Discord server, but they have fallen off a little. I will definitely be adding AI support in the future though.

I know SC2 has done so and a lot of more recent mods have done so, but I'm old school ;)

In earlier versions, the Light Factory did not have the ability to build workers and I found that it was very frustrating for Consensus players because they need to constantly pump out Overseers (both for supply and tech purposes) which clogged their Hive production queues and made it difficult to get out workers. I considered a few solutions to this (including giving Workers the ability to "fission" into two workers) but ultimately settled on having them produced from the Light Factory as well.

Each time they attack, they leave a short debuff that causes attacks to ignore a level of armor. This applies to upgrades as well, so three Recyclicrabs attacking a fully upgraded Centurion will negate all of its armor. I did actually consider generating resources with Recyclicrabs, but I thought it would be too good in the early game. I gave that ability to the Assimilator instead (mostly for thematic reasons, because they were inspired by the World Devastators from the old Star Wars EU :P)

I actually agree with you - the Mechanoformer is a bit lame in its current iteration. It had various other effects in its earlier iterations, but none of them really worked out. I think it would be good to give it an additional purpose, but I haven't come up with anything yet.

I would love to do this, but I'm not sure my Photoshop skills are up to the task!

Their name is meant to invoke Roman Centurions, as they are professional soldiers who operate in a shield wall. I agree that they could probably use some additional visual distinction from the Medic.

Interesting... it should be able to target air units, and works in my current version. I'll re-download the release version and make sure I didn't do something stupid. :)

These have already been fixed, and will be in the next version.

Obviously the ability to generate resources from nothing is very powerful, so I wanted to have a trade-off for the Transdyne player that builds a lot of Shipment Centers by lowering their max army size. I'm not sure any other structures are powerful enough to merit such a restriction, but I do agree that it's an interesting design space to play with.


Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I'll keep them in mind - as I've been designing the upcoming AIs I have been considering tweaks to various aspects of the mod. Once I release AI support, I'd love to hear any additional suggestions you come up with.
