I just installed StarCraft on my laptop, which came with Windows 7 on it.

I got on bnet, then tried the map both before and after the color fix.

138 is still a solid black.

Summary: 138 is a solid black for all WinXP users and almost all Win7 users. In the rare instance someone doesn't see it as a solid black, it's still almost solid.

You have to use Scmdraft2 and go to Map Settings. From there, you can manually change the player color from its default color (red, blue, etc.) to 138. Not sure if you can do it with Starforge or Xtra Edit, but Scmdraft is the best one, so you might as well just download that if you don't have it.

Sorry, it's actually Map Description. It's under 'Scenario', or you can press ctrl+shift+enter to open it.

The color looks right in the game, not in the editor. Still, if 138 is no good then try 166, which is the black I use.

Do not do this.

166 is not black in-game for anyone. Windows XP users see a lot of ugly glowing noise covering half of the units, and Windows 7 users see a bright color on the minimap.

Saying "if 138 is no good" doesn't make sense. It's the only color that looks good for everyone else, and that's all you need to worry about when releasing a map. Even if you managed to have some unique system configuration that makes 138 look worse to you, it would be irrelevant, because the color still looks the same to everyone else.

It is stated pretty clearly in the first post of this thread:

The short version is, 138 is the only solid black. All other black player colors will not be black, and will look completely terrible, to a lot of other players.

If you wish to purposely reduce your map quality because you've been doing it for a long time already, and can't bring yourself to break from self-made tradition, that's well within your right. However, please do not attempt to misinform others into doing the same. The community came together, pooled its knowledge, and tested all the black values. This is the only black value that's remotely acceptable to even the most average standards. The rest all look completely terrible (and not black) to a lot of players.
